I received the box yesterday. First, thanks again to David for doing this pass-around. Second, holy cow...this is a bit overwhelming Smile. I have spent the past hour sniffing soaps and trying to figure out what I will shave with first. I'm still not sure but what I have done is put several of the brands back in the box. These are brands currently in the den or which I have tried in the past such as Barrister & Mann and Crowne & Crane...both excellent soaps but there are too many soaps in the box to worry about lathering/sniffing previously experienced soaps. Here is a pic of the open box:

Well, I decided to try the Jabonman Eufros base this morning. I recently purchased the new Chatillon Lux Nefertiti splash and, for some reason or another, thought it would pair well with Brisa de Oriente. When I sniffed the soap out of the sample jar, it seemed to have a spicy-citrus type scent. But after lathering, I realized my nose may have become “dull” from sniffing so many samples.

Scent: Once lathered, the scent was much more apparent. I was no longer getting the spicy-citrus but a Frankincense type scent. It was very similar to Stirling’s Frankincense & Myrhh which I do enjoy…but tend to enjoy more so in the late fall/early winter season.

Scent Strength: Off the puck, I would rate it around 6 or 7. The scent was good throughout the shave and I could still pick up light whiffs of it prior to applying the splash.

Lather: I hate to comment on the lather at this point. I bowl lathered the sample and I haven’t bowled lathered in nearly a year. So after getting the soap loaded onto my brush, I went immediately to the face rather than finishing the lather in the bowl. I don’t know if this caused an issue or not, but the lather seemed “light” and there were only glimpses of “shiny-slick lather”. I’m sure this was user-error and I will definitely be revisiting the brand before shipping off the box.

Overall: I’m hoping the lather was user-error today. The scent is truly wonderful, if you enjoy Frankincense & Myrrh

Sounds like a good time and I have a lather bowl that's lonely. Thanks Dave.

Beehive – Crisp Alpine Stream

The Beehive shaving soap is new to me…I had never even heard of the company before this pass-around. I did a quick Google search and wasn't able to come up with much info on the company. They do sell shave soap on their website but I think it is a cream and it looks like there is only one scent available. The pass-around box contains three samples: Bay Rum, Crisp Alpine Stream, and Sandalwood. Each is lightly-scented and I would rate them 4/10 on scent strength. CAS has the most pleasant of the three scents so it was used for today's shave.

CAS is a cologne-type scent modeled after Creed Aventus (???). A light pleasant scent but the scent strength is a negative for me. The scent opened slightly upon lathering but I certainly wouldn’t call it overpowering. The soap itself is very firm. Someone would need to push hard to make a dent

As far as the lather is concerned, I would consider it a lower mid-tier. Nothing about it blew me away and I did find the lather to be a bit “fluffy”. But there was sufficient cushion and enough slickness. I wouldn’t say enough slickness to go over an unlathered area but enough to get the job done. Post-shave was again, an “ok” experience. I did not find it to be drying. Overall, a decent soap with a very pleasant scent.
