I had the six blade version last summer, and the above comment played into why I started with traditional shaving: pushing the cartridge to get more shaves, shaving rushed rather than relaxed and enjoying it, and I cut myself good. Looked like I was "evolving" gills!! Also, the saving money part was important, but didn't work out nearly as well as the relaxing and enjoying part, ha ha.

The change to wet shaving ended up being ALL about shave quality for me. Its become a hobby so I spend too much money on it, but we have a budget for it now. Anyway, I always felt like cartridge razors should last longer than they did, and I felt like the value was not there. What ended up happening for me, was I would always stretch out a cartridge for too long and it would get dull, pull, and many times, give me a multi-cut like yours, because of the many blades on it or it would give me horrendous razor burn. Yeah the first couple shaves would be decent but after that forget it. I really needed to use a cartridge like I use a DE razor blade, three or four shaves and done, but I felt like wow, at $6 a pop or whatever those stupid things cost, the value just wasn't there. Plus no matter how sharp or new a cart is, there was never the glide, that I get out of a DE and a nice soap. Never. Perhaps I could have used a cartridge with a shave soap? Who knows, I have no desire these days to try it.
SCShaver , I am now as you are, this is an enjoyable hobby and so I spend on it, but I am reigning in on the purchasing until I actually finish a tub of soap or use up ALL the blade brands that work for me that I bought. And I don't fret over tossing a blade after 1 or 5 uses, because it pack cost less than 2 cartridges.
When I started down this path, my kit came in the mail over several days, so I actually shaved for two days with cartridges and TOBS cream applied with a brush. Those 2 shaves were the best I'd ever had with a cart. I believe someone like mantic59 or Leisureguy had written a ranking of combos and comfort, and had ranked carts/soap & brush right below DE/Soap & brush. Least comfort was cart/canned and next was DE/canned, in that person's ranking.
I have yet to travel since I started traditional shaving. I did save my Pace 6 blade carts and handle. I just don't know yet what I'll do when I do travel: bring a brush, cream, and DE or use a good tube cream and the carts? Like you, I have no desire to go back, but not sure what to expect for travel.

I've been very fortunate. Since I started wet shaving, the only traveling I've done is by car so I just pack up everything I want to use. Soaps, razor, brush, etc.

I travel a fair amount and depending on the trip [checked bag?] I may or may not bring a DE. If I do, I typically pack a Weishi that I have had for a while. Two reasons: it is nearly impossible to nick yourself with it and it shipped in a plastic travel case. I have a Simpson travel brush that does the trick then normally either throw a stick or cream in my dopp kit.
If not a DE I have found that the Feather NEO is about as good as a cartridge razor can get and pack that. May add a travel size foam.
