Who else here on DFS enjoys the smell of roses with their morning shave? I know that I do. Why is it that the artisan soap making community seems to stay away from rose? Soap Commander does one and so does Caties Bubbles but apart from that there isn't much. Chatillon Lux does an awesome Yuzu Rose Patchouli aftershave that features some great rose (thanks hawns ), but once you move away for the TOBS and the GFT there aren't a lot of roses to be smelled. Is there a reason for that? I know that Barrister_N_Mann made a foray in to the roses with Caledonia Rose some time back but Will found the result unsatisfactory. Is rose that hard to deal with? Difficult to blend? Too expensive? Is the perception that men don't want to smell like roses? I wonder how rose would blend with bay rum? The well groomed PirateBig Grin

Any thoughts on this vexing issue?

LPL has Rose. Its Artisan.  Good stuff http://www.maggardrazors.com/product/le-...r-98g-tin/

QCS has Rose - http://www.queencharlottesoaps.com/Rose-Otto_p_29.html

Mikes does Rose and Cedar, not pure rose

Simpsons Rose and Vanilla is strong, although I guess Simpson is not "artisan", or is it?

I like Rose a lot and have been using GFT. Great stuff. If it doesn't HAVE to be artisan you got

T&H, a very good Rose
DRH, another very good Rose
MWS Rosalimone - combination, not pure
TOBS Rose

Why aren't there more?  Victorian Scent. My guess modern man is afraid of Rose, Violet, and other Victorian flower scents. Their loss. More for me Big Grin. Don't bother me in the least to use Lily of the Valley, Rose, and Violet. All good summertime stuff. GFT Violet is excellent too.

My theory might not hold water since Lavender is a flower scent to and you got a lot of Lavenders like MdC and all the creams.

Excellent, I was hoping to flush out some rose products that I wasn't aware of! Thanks for your recommendations. Its possible that the old school floral scent doesn't have as broad appeal. I think it might have something to do with guys assuming that they won't like floral scents without actually trying them. I've been pleasantly surprised on occasion when I've ordered a soap that didn't look to be appealing to me from the vendor's description only to find that I really like the scent. TFS LE Hercules is an example. Here is the vendor's description:

"A blend crafted by master soap artisan, Paola Barile, Tcheon Fung Sing's Hercules Shaving Soap offers an exquisitely smooth shave. Inspired by and named after Hercules, the brand's ambassador in Greece, this shaving soap is one that is held dear by the company owners. Infused with coconut and golden jojoba oil, just a dollop of this fine lather creates the perfect slick layer for your razor, ensuring a comfortable, cushioned shave. Brush some of this creamy mixture across your stubble, and savour the subtle licorice and lilac scent, specially concocted by Paola Barile: these soft floral suds offer an excellent shave and a gentle way to ease into your morning."

I really didn't think I would like liquorice and lilac but I wanted to try the TFS LE soaps and I'm glad I did. Hercules is now a favourite. I've become much more open to trying scents that my stubborn self might tell me to pass on and I think my shaving has been enriched by doing so.

Mike's does have a Bulgarian rose; beta testing, I had a tin, but sold it. He is sure to come up with a great rose-scented soap.
And on the aftermarket...(read pricey): Klar Kabinett

Lilac! I forget lilac. MWS has a very good lilac that smells almost like the real thing. I don't have any but tried it.

Yes, I expect "modern man" is afraid of the Victorian scents. You can call me old fashioned Smile

Dusy Kabinett is supposed to be a clone of Klar Kabinett but difficult to find?

Soap Commander Love is supposed to be an emulation of Klar Kabinett again

C&S 88 I just don't get. I have some sitting here and its just smells weird to me.

Since I really like Klar, I wish they would sell Kabinett. They sell an Almond and Lemongrass but not available in the US.

Here is thread that discusses rose scents. Its a good read.

http://damnfineshave.com/thread-rose-sha...uggestions

Its funny Grim you mention Victorian scents. I find it ironic that alot of quality soapers put so much time and energy into developing a true or authentic Fougere scent, yet they abandon a whole market of us rose users.

I did my own research on different rose scents, and found that the Bulgarian Rose shave cream is best. I love it. This cream is made by a company in a country that distills the only rose that can be processed for oil to be used in soaps and cosmetics. I would even go out on a limb and say that some of the major soapers actually purchase the oils from this company to make their own products. I would suggest purchasing straight from this company because if you purchase from a certain vendor that imports it, you will receive damaged product without recourse. (trying not to rant)

https://www.rose-of-bulgaria.com/en/home...vd63uti6b3

I have also found an added benefit of the Bulgarian Rose shave cream and matching ASL, the opposite sex tends to come into and stay withing your personal bubble. If this is something you are into, this soap and ASL will help you with this goal.

I havent tried the QCS Rose Otto, but will be on my must buy list. QCS performance is top notch and have seen reviews that it is in many ways equal to the Bulgarian Rose cream.

Also, I forgot to add, anytime I see lavender in a scent description, I have to pass on it. Lavender is one of those few scents that trigger an instand headache. So I just steer clear of them. A prime example is the new DFS pure20 soap being released. I see the lavender in it and just cant bring myself to try it out.

This is a link to the German website for Dusy. I am lucky enough to have family there.

I really enjoy Rose shave soap or cream followed by Bay Rum. Lately I've been using Rose Water as a toner, the scent doesn't stick around long, but for a few minutes it smells great.
