Smell the Roses?

I love a rose scented shave.  As others have mentioned here, I enjoy most of the floral scents that might be considered of the Victorian era.  That would include lavender, lilac, and violet.  To me, these scents are uplifting and as far as something like these scents not being masculine, I just put that down to advertisers who think it will help their bottom lines so I ignore them.

While on the subject of scent, I'll share something I've been doing.

I will add scent via essential oils. For example, Mitchell's Wool Fat doesn't come with a scent. Sometimes I'll add a few drops of essential oil and have a fragrant shave . I added essential oils when making my home made shave oil as well.

The key is to start with a couple of drops and move up. Some of the scents will cause an uncomfortable burning sensation if too much is added.

Essential oils are available on Amazon and from some of the candle making websites.

This won't allow anyone to re-create a complex scent, though I've been enjoying it.

Pure Rose scent is not my preference. However, if it is combined well with other aromas, then I really enjoy it.

Who else here on DFS enjoys the smell of roses with their morning shave? I know that I do. Why is it that the artisan soap making community seems to stay away from rose? Soap Commander does one and so does Caties Bubbles but apart from that there isn't much. Chatillon Lux does an awesome Yuzu Rose Patchouli aftershave that features some great rose (thanks hawns ), but once you move away for the TOBS and the GFT there aren't a lot of roses to be smelled. Is there a reason for that? I know that Barrister_N_Mann made a foray in to the roses with Caledonia Rose some time back but Will found the result unsatisfactory. Is rose that hard to deal with? Difficult to blend? Too expensive? Is the perception that men don't want to smell like roses? I wonder how rose would blend with bay rum? The well groomed Pirate

I know I do, Mark! I love the scent of rose most specially when done in a masculine way. One of my favorite perfume is Tom Ford's Noir de Noir. It's really a great dark, rose scent.

I hope we do get to see more soaps with rose as the main star.

I enjoy floral scents quite a bit and I'd have to say lily of the valley is my favorite. Rose is nice too. I've only tried the Soap Commander Love and LPL. I think the SC is closer to a true rose.

I had LPL Rose. That's a very strong and true rose scent.

I had a sample of this and hated it. To me it smelled very synthetic like some kind of cleaning product, not like a real rose at all. Your nose may vary I guess. Performance didn't blow me away either so I tossed it.

Also, I forgot to add, anytime I see lavender in a scent description, I have to pass on it. Lavender is one of those few scents that trigger an instand headache. So I just steer clear of them. A prime example is the new DFS pure20 soap being released. I see the lavender in it and just cant bring myself to try it out.

I don't recall smelling any lavender in the DFS Pure2O. It must be blended into the scent pretty well. It's just a fresh, clean pleasant type of scent. Very nice.

I'm a big, big huge rose fan. I like to think that I got hawns and HuckKing723 on the rose train, though the latter may have already been on it.

That said, there have been some excellent suggestions made here. Rose attar is expensive enough, and is more of a "tea rose" type of scent, and the real full-bodied rose absolute is even more ridiculously expensive. Jabonman's Rosa Bourbon uses some, and it's $35 a jar. Nuff said. If you want real-deal rose though, it's probably the benchmark along with LPL Rose de Pushkar.

Eufros Rosa de Bourbon is ridiculously good. Wholly Kaw Chypre Rose Concerto, Czech & Speake No.88, CRSW Oliva Summer Rose and I knownim missing another. Those are the best for my nose. LA Shaving The Black Rose is the other. I'm looking forward to more rose scented products as it seems to be catching on. Ballenclaugh Hot Barrel Rose smelled like crap to me. Just awful. Seemed like a good soap but the smell was so funky I couldn't use it.

I can't detect lather in it either.

Trumper's Rose cream has a wonderful, earthy smell. The soap is quite good, too. On a non-shaving note, I recently discovered Pre de Provence Rose Petal bath soap, a nice, mild scent.
