We have a lot of praise threads going on here. This is not to contradict those... so to get to my point / question... I bought a new Chubby Super. About 3 to 4 months of use in a generous rotation it started to shed. It was past the typical break in/ shed period. All was good. And then the shedding started..3..4..5...6 hairs per shave. I did the comb out as is recommended. No better. Finally I reached out to "Customer Service" thinking to myself, this is a luxury product, some may even feel over-priced but I digress, and surely the company will support it's wares and high paying customers. I was essentialy told too bad and it was probably my fault in essence. So I reached out to Mark. After much debate I was told it was normal shedding but I was finally offered the opportunity to mail it to him to have a look and see what he thought. Like maybe I may not have known what I was looking at...
I'm embarrassed by the number of brushes I own and was irritated to say the least at being treated like a naive imbicile. That somehow picking badger hairs out of my razor and navigating around them on my face during my shave to this degree could be routine. Pardon me.
I brought this up "elsewhere" and was shoo'd off. So I'll ask here- has anyone had luck with customer service with simpson? And I'm kind of curious to the degree they have QC issues.
Btw I have another chubby super and its a great brush. No problems there.

*this transpired over a year ago. I gave up on trying to rectify.

I am sorry that you are experiencing this problem. I have 5 Simpson brushes and none of them are shedders, but I have heard stories similar to yours, with similar experiences with Simpson customer service. Good luck. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution.

I had a similar problem with a shedding Grosvenor LE that the factory obviously didn't want to have anything to do with. After lots of foot dragging, I finally got them to agree to replace the knot. However, not only did they not fix the problem, they kept the brush and substituted an inferior model. Excuses were made, but I felt these were hollow and still do. Whether it was an honest mistake or not, they lost me early on and cemented that feeling with their further actions.

How many times would you say you used the brush? In three to four months in a big rotation, perhaps not that many times? My only point is that Chubby's may sometimes shed early on but there could be some hope that it will resolve itself. That was my experience with a CH2 Super. Was fine the first few shaves, then shed quite a bit for about 5-6 shaves (I believe it shed at least 10 hairs a couple of times). But it settled down and turned out to be a fantastic knot. I've also experienced shedding from other brands that did not resolve itself, and I was able to return them without issue. Granted, I was dealing with resellers, not directly with the manufacturers.

Great point Rob. This has been a couple of years- the initial shedding slowed, like with the C3 I sold and the C2 I still have. After a period of shed free shaves the shedding resumed and worsened with time and continued on that path of demise. Like I said I don't have the biggest collection of brushes but I have a big collection of brushes and have been enjoying wet shaving for 8 years and this was not that typical break in shedding for this model/hair type.

RSP, your story is quite normal. Simpsons can stand behind their products but there is also New2theScene's experience with their customer service. One hears it a lot. They are nice brushes but there are plenty of other equal and superior brushes on the market now.

Unfortunately, the gent from Manx who runs the company, after a few interactions with him, comes across as arrogant and really smug. It's too bad as the Simpson family and David Carter down at Nimmer Mill in Somerset were really quite pleasant.

Sorry to hear that the brush was a lost cause. I've had 4 shedders so far and it's indeed a miserable thing to deal with.
I try to put myself in the position of the manufacturer on the shedding issue. We know that brushes can have defects that cause shedding, and we also know that some user activity can cause it (scolding hot water, mashing, etc). How would a manufacturer know which side was at fault, when the shedding issue didn't fully manifest until months into ownership? I'm not sure what the solution is. But there is no excusing a bad attitude of the vendor toward the customer.

My last few from Watterson:

$500 horn Duke 3 with an uneven base that wobbled. Had to send it back for "repipping."

$450 Chubby 3 with a dent in the resin of the handle.

$550 horn Chubby 2 with a smudge on the logo.

All bought new from Simpson. Watterson is nothing more than an arrogant twit. He claimed in an email that he inspects all brushes that leave the factory and he's only had two returns in three years.

To all those posting threads about "great customer service" from Watterson because he rectified what never should have happened in the first place, please hold your applause. He sure doesn't deserve it...

Glad someone else said it. I've never had to deal with Simpsons customer service directly, but there's a huge disparity in what you get VS. the prices they charge.
I've sold all my Simpson brushes except one (A Phyl-8 with the original crap knot replaced with a vastly superior Envy White knot).

I own a fair number of Simpson brushes (about 15 with more coming) all different knots manchurian/Super/Best several from 2010-2014 and several recent purchases and not one brush has shed more then 8 or so hairs. I only had one issue with Simpson which related to shipping and i contacted Mark and everything was corrected without issue. I talk to Mark quite a bit and he has always been quick with replies and very pleasant to deal with. Is it strictly because i always order and so much or not I'm not sure but i have no issue with them and hopefully they can correct the issue.
