It seems everyone wants backbone, which to me is not really necessary with synthetics. I suppose I'll have to break down and buy another Plisson some day. I have long regretted selling my old one. The closest thing I have found to it is the Stirling Kong, but that's too large for some of my soaps.
Regardless of the above, I'll probably try one of these new knots. I do enjoy various types of synthetics but wish there were more Plisson-like offerings is all.
most of my badgers have a loft of about 52mm and are fairly dense. with synthetics, at least the few different variants that I've tried, I hate the dense knots that don't splay much.

I too just received the SilkSmoke brush from AP Shave Co (24mm)- I got it with the ruby ripple handle. It is a very nice looking brush IMO and I like the taller handle. I have used it for two shaves so far and really like it. I also have the Cashmere and Tuxedo brushes from AP Shave Co (both with 24mm knots). My take on the SilkSmoke vs the Cashmere and Tuxedo after two shaves is as follows (I used Mike"s and Stirling Soaps for the two shaves):
Cashmere is softer and much less backbone than the SilkSmoke
Tuxedo is slightly softer and maybe slightly less backbone than the SilkSmoke but the backbone between the Tuxedo and SilkSmoke is very close.
Now my Cashmere and Tuxedo are well used at this point and the SilkSmoke is, of course, brand new. The dynamics of the SilkSmoke may change some with more use but doubt it will ever be as soft as the Cashmere which was very soft from day one. It may become as soft or softer than the Tuxedo and maybe the backbone will change. Hard for me to tell. For me, I like the SilkSmoke just the way it is now as it loads Mike's soap very easily and I am a big fan of Mike's Soaps (Mike's only issue to me, up until now, is that it did not load quite as easily as most of my other soaps).
The price for the complete SilkSmoke brush from AP Shave Co. was $20,53 plus shipping. They have also cut their prices on the Cashmere and Tuxedo.
I hope this has been somewhat helpful. I'll admit to being no expert on brushes - I just wanted to give you my initial impressions.
Have you guys seen or tried the Mother Load from Strike Gold Shave. I'm curious how this one compares to the silk smoke and cashmere.

johnz3333, thanks for sharing those impressions!
I’m also interested in reading impressions of the (Strike Gold Shave) Mother Lode. It’s been in some SOTD pictures in the last few weeks. Another interesting one is the (Turn N Shave) Full Moon knot, which I don’t think anyone has mentioned on this forum yet.
I just set a new Maggard Razors 26 mm brown synthetic knot into a handle, and will start getting acquainted with it this week.

Did you post your impressions on your brush somewhere?
I am looking into getting a couple synthetic knots and honestly I am on the fence between Maggard's and AP's.
lloydrm, I guess I haven’t really written about the Maggard knot I have. I do like it a lot, and in many ways, it feels like 26 mm is an ideal size. (Most of my brushes are 24 mm, which is great, but I also wouldn’t mind if 26 mm became the “standard” in the future.)
However, I do feel like the AP Shave Co. Tuxedos that I have might be a little softer on the face than the Maggard knot is. So in this case, I’d have to say that though I like the brown 26 mm Maggard quite a bit, I prefer the feel of the Tuxedos. (I have two of them in 24 mm and one in 30 mm.)
I also prefer the BOSS (24 mm synthetic) to the Maggard knot, and have yet to set my Cashmere in a handle to start experimenting with that. (Eventually I’d also like to try the Faux Horse.) I hope this helps.

Excellent. Now I know I need one of each
