Here is a comparison shot of the different synthetic knots. The Razorock Bruce and the AP Shave Co are both 24mm knots. The Maggard tuxedo is the 22mm version.

I can’t say I have a favorite yet. I probably like the looks of the tuxedo the best. The silversmoke is softer, and it has more loft, which I find better for synthetics.

Don’t forget the Mother Lode. Amazing synthetic knot.

I just saw a post about that one. Sounds interesting.

In terms of looks, it would be nice to see a next-gen synthetic that looks more like a badger knot. I know it’s kind of like the skeuomorphic debate in software icons (i.e. the “save” icon doesn’t need to look like a floppy disc when people haven’t used those in years). But, the silversmoke, for example, still looks odd to me.

In terms of quantifying synthetic knots (including the SilkSmoke) check out Understanding Synthetic Knots.

Check out the "Silver Fox" knot... Very badgeresque. Mühle SilverTip Fibre knots are also on point.

This is quite an informative post about the sourcing of these bristles. Nice job!

There is and it's the best of the newest gen. of synthetics according to many who have one. It's called the SynBad, or "Mew Brown" as made by YaQi:

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

It just so happens that I placed an order for the AP Shave Co brush yesterday. I’m excited to try it out.
