I completely understand why an “outsider” would think that watching shaving videos is strange. Most people have probably never even had the thought of a shaving video cross their mind, so just the concept alone can seem foreign.

There can be a lot of good information in some videos, whether it’s product reviews or shaving technique. I rarely watch shaving videos, though, simply because to me, most of them are too long. I just don't want to spend 15+ minutes watching a shaving video – if I can find the same information in written form, reading is always my preference. Props to those who make and share videos, though. It’s great to have options!

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Agree. That’s why I do the “3 Minute Shaver”.

I enjoy watching the different techniques for lathering and hearing the reviews of soaps and splashes.

I like them for catching up with my buddies, like Dave in KY, when he does his videos. Yes, he's usually showcasing something, but he's also talking about what's going on in his life. It's a nice change of venues from "the pages".

One of my many mottos is "The courage to do a thing comes from watching six other people do it on Youtube". Most appropriate when attempting to repair machinery.

But I like shaving vids as enhanced product reviews. Not only do you hear a judgement of the product, but you get to see if anything he did suggests you may have a different experience with it.

There are a wide variety of shaving channels on YouTube.

Some are instructional videos that show you proper techniques for building a lather, shaving using various types of razors, honing straight razors, etc.

Some are product reviews of razors, soaps, hones, etc. Depending upon the quality of the review, it can provide great input on purchase decisions.

Some videos are essentially infomercials.  The West Coast Shaving shave of the day videos fall into this category. Also, Kensurfs videos often review products through "rose colored glasses".  He rarely says anything negative about the products sent to him by the suppliers for review. Thus, I do not put much credence in his reviews.

Personally, I find the shaving videos on the Michael Freedberg Channel to be some of the best. He used to make videos almost every week, but in the past year has only released videos occasionally. He has one of the largest subscriber lists of any shaving channel.

Last night I ran into a video interview of Rod and Mandy at Stirling by IAMCDB. Have to say, I leaned quite a bit about Stirling as a company from that video. It's about 9 months old, but I don't subscribe to videos, I just find them, so I miss a lot.

I saw that video interview with Rod and Mandy. I have a great deal of respect for them and how they serve not only their customers but also their community. My dealing with Stirling personally as a customer has been excellent.

This might be my favourite shaving demo/review:

I like particularly like Diaz's reaction at 06:54.
