Shaving terms I don't like

I find it funny when people use the word "foam" instead of lather. Foam is the stuff that comes out of a can of Barbasol. The word implies a light, airy consistency. You don't want air in your lather so it's a bad word to describe it.

A couple of times, I’ve seen a product review in Russian, and when I’ve pasted the text into an online translator, it also applies the word foam. Since my Russian skills are beginner level, I’m not sure if there even is a word for lather in Russian, or if it is just foam, but it’s clear that from a translation perspective, foam seems to be the default word that gets used.

I will have to ask my Russian colleagues next time we have a meeting!

I can ask my Russian gamer buddies but I am sure they will say 'C*** B****'

OK, I have a new "un-favorite" term: unobtainium.  I have gotten really tired of seeing it used in BST listings of items for sale which obviously are in fact fairly easily obtained and are not in any way noteworthy.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already (and I'm not reading through 14 pages to find out), but the term "faceturbating" kinda makes my skin crawl.Ugh....

Skin food.

Will not buy any product that has that anywhere on the label.

Also agree with whoever said "doesn't get the love it should". When I see that on BST I always think: "they're using something that is better, let me buy that instead of what they're selling."

What a hilarious thread! For somebody who speaks English as a second language and comes from a country with a heritage of operational discipline and intense grammar I enjoyed this quite a bit. In the end language is a means of communication. Hence, whatever gets the message across, is game, especially where  people with different backgrounds and language skills get together.

English is a very imprecise language and I'm surprised its grown in usage as much as it has. Like VHS vs BetaMax I guess, superior doesn't always win out. I suspect that online forums in languages such as German or French could get boring given the far lower likelihood of ambiguity and misunderstandings leading to snarky exchanges and general hilarity for all

To be fair, English can be precise and unequivocal provided that the speaker/writer chooses his words carefully. That isn't usually the case, however, in the era of social media and online forums where English is often the language of miscommunication.

Marko, very keen observations, and I especially enjoyed the VHS versus Betamax comparison. English is VHS all the way, and just like VHS was made obsolete by DVDs, social media and the web at large are changing the language. (The difference is that DVDs are arguably a better product than VHS is. Post-social media English pales in comparison to what existed before.)

Of course, this is AFAIK, and YMMV. (LoL.)

If someone mentions faceturbating, you could always reply with something like "Hey now, no playing with your razor handle".
