Shaving notes of the MaineYooper

Marko that comment made me snort out a laugh! I was thankful I wasn't eating or drinking when I read it. Well played!

On the past two shaves I have tried the Marco Method for loading. Yesterday I used a 20mm badger to load on a puck of MacDuff's Aspen Parkland (which is a softer soap) and had a wonderful lather. To be complete, I used my Christopher Bradley Karve razor, C plate, and an Israeli Red. It was a very good shave.

Today I used my Karve Bison, with a Personna CC blade and a 26mm synthetic (PAA Star Wisp), and Murphy & McNeil Nil soap. The lather started out foamy with many little bubbles, then got to a luxurious, creamy state. This was made all the better by a brush warmer and my shave was heading to the best shave ever rating, but a red spot appeared on my jawline between passes and disappeared during a between passes rinse. But nonetheless, it was one of my best shaves ever, my face feeling so good afterwards and an overall feeling of being refreshed.

A stellar shave this morning with the aluminum Karve Overlander and a Bic Chrome blade on its third use. I opened a new tub of Zingari Man unscented and loaded with the apshaveco Pure Bliss knot in Cosmic by Sawdust Creations. Refreshing feeling when done and still feeling good even after cleaning litter boxes (the full clean: empty, soap and water wash, dry, and new pooping pellets!!)

Did my last lawn mow. Raked and mulched the leaves and winterized the mower, string trimmer and blower.  Now I gotta get out the Christmas decorations. Yay.

Believe it or not, we here in central Maine haven't seen snow yet. Plenty of frost but no hard frosts (yet). How do I know about the lack of hard frosts, since my vehicle is garaged? Wood ticks! Yup, in the last 2 days I have seen 2 prescriptions for the prophylactic tick bite antibiotic dosing. Hardy little arachnoid critters, ticks are.

Yup, the lawn is looking ready for snow! Even got the septic filter rinsed one last time. Cool enough that day (upper 40s) that I had hardly any of those sewer flies or whatever around. No earth worms either. Then again, maybe it's due to the toxic waste products my bowels have emanated!!

Hoping to get some window wreaths up and lights on the back deck (which we can see from the living room). I don't fight with the pre-lit greens for the front porch, as they are 18 years old (but look great) and too many strands don't light up and even though I tried to find the culprit bulbs, it seemed more an exercise in repetitive profanity!! Even with Christmas music going, it sort of dampens the spirit. Unless I channel my inner Scrooge! "If I could work my will, every fool who goes around with Merry Christmas on his lips would be boiled with his own plum pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart!"

The day before Thanksgiving, and all through the house, only I am stirring, as we prepare for some medical-ness. My wife had two teeth extracted a few months back and today, the day before Thanksgiving, is when the oral surgeon scheduled the procedure to put in the implant posts that the new teeth will attach to. She has/had a bridge for years, and one of the teeth involved needed to be removed. And another that would be the new anchor was more amalgam than tooth, so we all decided to pull it as well. Good news is that we should be done by noon. And she says she can eat turkey and potato if I don't dry them out! I do have a Ninja mixer on standby for Thanksgiving smoothies!! (kidding!)

In big news, my last splurge of the year was on a Lambda Athena on a BST. It arrived yesterday and the first shave was today.

 
The lather was creamy and a bit thick, and allowed me to discover that the Athena does not have flow through slots on the base plate, but is solid! Not an issue, except for this thicker lather and I actually disassembled the razor to make sure the lather was rinsed out!

The brush is my trusty SynBad in the mesmerizing Nacar Oscuro Trotter Handcrafts handle. Pictures don't do the Oscuros justice, as they are deep and mysterious to look at the color schemes that Paul Stubble Daddy used.

The shave was very good and very different for me. At times, I wondered if I had the angle right, as I wasn't feeling or hearing much. But it was removing whiskers! Even a bump got skinned and made a red spot! And the weight is high enough that on a bad arthritis flare in my hand, I will probably have to switch razors. I am looking forward to shaving more with this razor, and will spend some time perusing threads about it as I wait during the procedure this morning.
