Eric, I saw on another thread you mentioned that you’d bought some brushes used via Murphy & McNeil so I went and checked them out for buying/selling used stuff. It looks interesting. Have you ever sold stuff through them? How has your experience been?  I’m asking because I’ve got all sorts of stuff that I don’t use and probably never will again and it hurts to see it sitting there neglected. Hardware as well as software. I don’t have any interest in using PayPal so it makes the BST thing a bit of a challenge, not to mention that the whole process can be a hassle especially regarding higher ticket hardware items. For that reason I’ve pretty much done nothing with the surplus other than the occasional PIF. Anyway, just wondering how your experience with M&M has been. Thanks

Marko, sorry for the long delay in getting you more details. I thought I had listed there, but the seller site only shows that I'd created an account, but don't have any products listed. Now, I don't know if when you remove an item it gets deleted from your account or not. Items that are sold on the site stay as part of your account to track how much you've sold and made. I remember thinking that it was sort of like setting up an eBay listing, where you have lots of fields to fill in. On our BST, it is just writing and posting some photos. 

But now that I am looking at it again, I just may put some stuff up and see if what happens.

Eric, those CaYuen Workshops large shave bowls are amazing! I received my large CaYuen Workshops 'breakwater' shave bowl this week and have been blown away by how quickly it can generate lather.

When you build lather in your CaYuen bowl, do you hold the bowl in one palm while you build lather with the other hand or do you hold the bowl on your counter with one hand and build the lather with the other hand? Just curious which works better for you.

Hey David, sorry for such a tardy reply. My only excuse is work!

My bowl is the medium. From the photos you posted, it looks like the bottom of the large is similar to the medium bowl. That "bump" on the bottom of mine fits perfectly in my palm, so yes, I hold the bowl in one hand and create the lather in the other. It is ergonomically wonderful! A good friend of mine has a medium and always bowl lathers. He thought the medium might be allowing too much lather to escape over the edge, so bought another bowl, but this time a large. He loves it! Since I mainly face lather, I find that the medium is perfect for me. And I find it works wonders on those mornings I decide to start in the bowl first. During this summer, it was a loaded brush holder for me. In the winter, I tend to use the PAA Travel Scuttle as a brush warmer, as it has such a small bowl. 

Today I had all kinds of stuff on my counter: Bowl, scuttle, mug of heated distilled water, brush, and razor. The tub of soap was gone, as I had scooped some out and used it like I would a cream and bowl lathered.

For the curious, the soap is MacDuff's Aspen Parkland, which had seemed very goopy when wet yesterday from loading on the tub.

That is good to know that yours is a medium sized bowl. Your bowl inspired me to look at CaYuen. I was worried that I would have a bit of shaving brush clank if I went with the medium, so I opted for the large. I can manage to hold it in one hand to lather but I could see why people choose to hold it on the counter to use that size. I have a DirtyBird brush scuttle and 1.5 scuttle (with web design) for when I want a warm shave. The 1.5 takes so much water to fill the reservoir that I had Julie make me the brush scuttle (but widen the insert for larger knots).

I am trying out CaYuen's 'Au Naturale' unscented shave soap. It is stiffer than my normal croaps and I did find that it had some sort of scent when I lathered it on my face but the scent did not stick around. I only have one shave with it so far, so still forming my opinion on it. I had ordered a sample of it with my bowl order and they sent me a full tub of it since they were out of samples. I thought that was a very nice gesture.

I tried a sample of MacDuff's Aspen Parkland and was surprised how soft and sticky the soap was but I thought it was a very nice soap.

I will be very interested in your observations and experiences with the CaYuen unscented soap. I only use unscented, for work and home reasons, and love a good soap. I have only one "hard" soap, the Canada Shaving Soap. But I have tried (and usually enjoyed) more than I can remember! 
I will head over to the CaYuen workshop, as I have been debating a matching handle to my bowl, because, like coffee stuff, one has to acquire!

I will definitely let you know about the CaYuen 'Au Naturale' unscented soap. If you are buying a brush, you might as well throw in a sample of the soap on your order. Who knows, they may send you a tub as well. The soap is definitely not a hard soap, just firmer than a PAA, Razorock, or Noble Otter type soap. When you scoop it, it makes shavings that do not stick to/stay in the spoon. Then again, it could just be the tub I received. You can still mash and spread it in your CaYuen bowl but it is harder to spread than a softer croap.
