Hi Eric,

Quick question - I know you have or had a nickel overlander and had an aluminum.

I’ve had SS and aluminum.

Just looking for a comparison on how the plated one worked (efficiency and glide) vs any other metal.

The SS just did not glide and aluminum is just not enough razor for me (weight).

Many thanks if you don’t mind a few sentences.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I did have the brass and enjoyed it enough to have it nickel by BRG. The plating greatly improved the glide. However, due to bad arthritis in my hands, the weight was making things feel bad. I got the stainless steel with a shorter handle and it works well for me. I sold the plated one as I  knew I would not reach for it enough. I think Paul mrdoug has or had a plated one as well. Bob Ohio Bob has a gold plated Overlander. Maybe these guys can chime in as well. Feel free to ask for more information!

I think you nailed it on the head Eric.

The finish definitely helped with glide for me too, Mike. The brass is a heavy razor - heavier than Stainless. However, you are happy with the weight of the stainless, he could probably get that finished and have the best of both worlds.

Now, regarding performance... I personally didn't recall a difference between the polished and original. So, I think the plating is thin enough not to upset the original specs. That said, i'd ask Bob and Eric to post their thoughts, as I can be dim sometimes. Lol.

Hope this helped.

Here's my $.02 worth.  I have the Aluminum, Stainless and a 24K Gold plated Brass Overlander.  I can't tell a difference in performance between the three.  I had the brass plated due to hating constantly cleaning it as I don't care for patina.  The only difference I can tell between the three is the weight.  All three give outstanding shaves.  As some have complained about drag on the Brass and SS, I haven't noticed that.

A wonderful shave in natural light (from 1 big window). No power since 2:15PM yesterday. So thankful our contractor convinced us to buy a Generac when we build, as we have heat, lights in two areas, and a running fridge!

We experienced very strong winds for 12 hours or more yesterday, some in excess of 60mph, all in excess of the power company's max for safe bucket use during repairs. At one point, over 400,000 outages were reported, and several deaths from falling trees. One poor soul was on his roof trying to fix a leak I imagine (we have flooding and roads washed out as well, from heavy rains that lasted for hours and hours) when he was struck by a falling tree.

We're safe and warm, as the generator runs our heat, fridge, and lights in several rooms. No internet, so I learned how to use the personal hotspot on my phone to access the internet through it in order to use my laptop!

So glad you did the generator too Eric. Stay safe and hope the power is on soon.
