Ethos First Lather used only the first lather! Still had a stupendous shave! I loaded long (Loyal Order of Overloaders) and hydrated it perfectly for a rich, creamy lather with loads of slickness. The Junior is a very audible razor and even with overshaving to decrease the volume of the feedback, no irritation was received. A perfectly comfortable shave with smooth results!

Asylum injector blade razor

Excellent shave achieved! The Asylum does have more bite, shaving more "aggressive" but feeling on the face like an injector. Not sure how to describe it other than it is deceptive. It is not as "mild" shaving as, say, a Type G, but it doesn't have harsh blade feel. There must be some, or maybe the gap is different? It sort of reminds of a Fatip Gentile I had a few years back. Said to be mild but not one I reached for often, so I sold it. I need to check my notes. I am pleased with no drama, no white knuckles, and no nicks or irritation. I sense things could go wrong if I am not attentive. Like I say, I am having difficulty describing what it is I experience with the Asylum. I am not scared of it, nor do I see myself ignoring it. In fact, I am thinking of going the week with it, and using the Vector on my workdays this week.
Home news is my wife is struggling today with drowsiness. Sometimes when she gets this way and we have to pay attention to hydration (high output of the ostomy can have a negative effect) and medication. Or it could just be her being over-tired. It could also be the effects of dinner last night, as she thought her salmon tasted off. She is resting and my job is to keep checking on her, helping her in the bathroom and making sure she takes the right meds at the right time. These kind of days can be tough, lots of up and down the stairs to the bedroom and she sometimes can be stubborn and upset with my care giving!

Asylum on 7th Proline B-20 shave. Same soap, different Trotter brush, but still a Manchurian badger. This was an OK shave today. Not sure exactly what was off, but something was. While shaving, the blade seemed to be working well, but after a second or two, the area would feel irritated, and like it was scraped. I stopped shaving 1 pass early, ending with the ATG which gave me 2 weepers on my upper lip. Maybe it is the blade. I quite often change out a blade before noticing any drop in performance. Or it could be technique. The lather seemed a little thinner this morning. In any event, the Type G will be used tomorrow to make sure my face recovers!

Wow, it has been some time since I last made an entry. Time to fix that.
We all hit those periods when life gets so busy or complicated or whatever. This past week has sort of been that, but all is good. The busyness was for good things and nothing nasty going on. For which we are thankful! I trust others are okay, and selfishly I missed the fun of this forum with absent friends. I hope you are all doing as well as can be! You are missed!
One of the interesting things which I experienced was having a long talk with my wife about this crazy hobby of mine. While looking for a box of Swiffer wipes in our basement, she saw my box of brush knots and several boxed brushes. She was a bit concerned that I'd starting hoarding and we had a frank talk about what is going on with all that stuff. I hadn't been sharing much with her, as she had very early on expressed her opinion on the subject (not very positive!) but if I wanted to spend longer shaving and risk cutting myself, then more power to me.
After I told her those brushes are boxed for shipping for a charity event, she was relieved. Both our parents are pack rats, hardly ever throwing anything away and living with rooms packed full of unused items. We have tried to NOT do this, but I am the one that makes piles of junk that eventually have to be sorted and I do often find it mostly should have just been thrown out!
I told her about shaving being an important almost mindful exercise (she assures me, wearing her psychologist had, that it is indeed mindful) and my appreciation for both vintage and modern razors, and she told me she thinks that this thing is great and wishes I'd share more. I told her about my perception of her negative reaction way back when I started, and she told me why she reacted negatively. She only know her Grandpa to shave like that and was afraid I was becoming an old man! So I told her how old I really am (just kidding!). She understands now the attraction, and even has admiration for the works of art that vintage razors are. It was a great talk and I feel strangely relieved or unburdened about my enthusiasm for what so many see as a chore. And she gets it! Her only request: Don't go crazy and have stuff all over. If we need a display area, let's talk about it!
That was a great conversation and one I should have had years ago instead of keeping my thoughts and feelings to myself.
