Tread lightly my friend.

If it helps, think of "salon" as just one letter away from "saloon".

Until recently, there used to be a cigar lounge near me that operated a one-chair barbershop on the premises.  They had fancy products on offer (just as we do!), and they used currently hip buzzwords, like "edging", "layering", and whatnot.  But you could have a smoke, shave, and haircut at the same time, and then join the mostly male clientele for some relaxing, uncensored conversation.  It was the best ventilated cigar lounge I've ever been in too.

A little late myself, sometimes I think it is my new MO (I hope not!), but I wanted to echo Dave's comment in his thread, it's great to hear from you! I like the idea of the place you mention, sounds like a nice time, even if I don't smoke (always enjoyed the smell of pipe tobacco, and some cigars. I remember seeing guys smoking both at the parades when I was a kid). I have a cousin, who back in the 80s taught on a reservation in New Mexico. Somewhere out there he found a barber shop that did the whole straight razor, hot towel, lay back in the chair thing, and swore by it. Steve to this day says those were some of the best things to have experienced in life, no gum-chewing, barely out of high school, kid who is really more interested in the conversation one chair over or distracted by her phone chiming away with "likes"!!! (I just renewed my grumpy old man card, lol)

Very late morning, almost noon, truth be told, shave today!

Noble Otter Bar and making its debut,
Ladies and Gentlemen, Introducing for its first use, hailing from both Eastern Canada and Western Washington,
Please welcome, Supernova, with a 24mm SynBad knot!!!!
What a pleasure to use!

On its second outing, the million dollar razor did a better job. Or, most likely, I did a better job directing its attention! I sort of like the little "finger rest" at the end of the handle. I tried to keep either a finger or thumb on there, depending how I needed to hold the razor, and it seemed to make the shave better.

So things worked out better today, leaving me feeling much more refreshed and with no leaking!  The head has some grooves, which I guess where to help improve glide or something, but whatever the material is (brass?) it produces a bit of drag on my face. That would be my only criticism at this time. I am finding that non-polished heads "tug" or are prone to skip more than polished heads. In fact, I decided, after consultation with AlanH81, to have him work his skill and artistry on my General v2 head, so that it will glide like my Karve that Alan did.

Hope your weekend is going well! Lots of "leaf peepers" up here, buses going by loaded with folks snapping pics from their phone at the trees as they go by! Peak change seems late, but the days are shorter and crisper, good coffee and hot cider days! (time to brew another mug now!).

So here we have a mostly true photo of this morning's shave. Mostly true, but the soap was swapped out for House of Mammoth Z, and I didn't think about retaking the picture!

Overall, a very nice shave, but I managed to get a couple of weepers by my mouth, and I wasn't even talking!

This week is my birthday week, and I'm going to be eleventy-one....wait, that's not my story!
So I am toying with using my razors that are from around that time frame. First up is this Type M, and using the wonderful Dummies Guide for Type M, this particular variant, based on dial and handle stickers, as well as no guard, was made from 1964 through 1966, so I am covered!

Monday and Tuesday will be with my Slims, one shiny like back in the day, and the other sporting a Steampunk theme.

More as the week progresses, as if I were to write out the plan, Murphy would no doubt be along to have me change something!

Many thanks Eric.  I enjoy the crew too - very much - and even when I'm spread thin, I try to stay at least tuned in enough to keep up.  This is one of the few anchors in my life, definitely the most man-friendly one, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Oh, and Happy Birthday young man!

From Pink Floyd:
The sun is the same in a relative way,
But you're older.
Shorter of breath,
And one day closer to death.

Good times!

Have a great day, all, and thank you for the well wishes this week. We here at the house have much to celebrate, with the great cancer scare hopefully behind us, and a lovely cake from Sugaree's Bakery in Mississippi to be eaten. Good thing my pants have the Super Band Waist Band!
