Quick update, the procedure is an upper scope again, but with more looking and sampling. No operating planned. Sorry for the misinformation!

My wife has had a few of them, still no eating so many hours before..... I forget how many.

PS - in fact when she was getting one once they were 4 hours behind. It was because they had someone with a ton of polyps to remove during their colonoscopy and someone else getting a scope down the throat and the food in their tract was preventing retracting the scope and it was stuck. That's why you don't eat before a scope  True Story

The follow up scope and tissue sampling went well. Pancreas appeared normal. At this time, it has been recommended by the doctor today that we set up a consultation with a cancer surgeon for the removal of the bile duct. So we are taking tomorrow to research options. Being so close to Boston, we will probably try to get in with one of the cancer facilities there.

Sounds like some good news Eric, if anything that relates to cancer could be classified as 'good news'.

Hope you have luck with the cancer center. Sounds like (to my uneducated ears) a smart way to go for the best treatment. Still rooting for you folks, with some prayers tossed in for good measure.

The first time she had it done, we waited almost an hour past scheduled time, and there was an older gent there with his wife (the patient) and they waited 3 hours! He kept asking anyone coming out what was taking so long. I never heard the answer. But she was in and out before my wife came back out!

This past time was even longer for the procedure (not the wait). But she was doing better after the intubation than last time. Much more sampling done. We have a referral in process to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston, and are waiting to here if we will be seen soon or at all. The local GI doc suggested Portland, which is our fall back position. But for serious stuff, we head to Boston, which is about 3 hours away. Others see it as snooty, but really, if it is cancer or major surgery, wouldn't you want to see someone who deals with day in and day out, and not some one who only sees it every so often? That is our thinking, anyway. Maybe it would be different if Boston was really far away.

Shaving news: great shaves with my gear. Mostly been Mike's and Yates this week, but today I opted for an early afternoon shave, and I used the gear I have downstairs, namely a tub of Shannon's Nil (goat milk version) and the Parker adjustable injector. I wanted to try out some techniques with the injector, to be able to post some semi-intelligent comments in another place, trying to give some help to someone new to injectors that had some rough shaves with the Ted Pella blades. I hope it helps him. My best guess, other than bein too anxious and shaving within 12 hours of a rough shave (which in my opinion is why the second shave seemed only slightly better), I think in coming from heavy SS DE razors, he pushed too hard and rode the blade too much. So I tried too much pressure and blade riding, and it did seem edgy and slightly uncomfortable. Dialing back the pressure and following the razor's flat head to get the intended angle gave me a superb 2 pass shave. Sort of fun to do and note these things. If nothing else, I had a nice comfortable shave and feel refreshed! And the Stirling unscented post-shave balm is working well for me. I need to use much less than the normal [cosmetic line] moisturizer that I usually use after shaving and applying rosacea topical medication.

Going for the best of the best is not snooty when the life of a loved one is on the line.  It's commendable.

I'm with Mike, it is NOT snooty. You are making a smart, informed medical decision.

It's not like they use golden scalpels or replace the saline with Evian.

On the shaving note: Stirling Balm is what I use post shave. It's awesome. Do you use the regular, menthol, or Glacial? I've only used the Glacial, and it is a wonderful cool-down regardless of what irritation I do or don't get.
