Personally, I would match the Cocobolo up with the 2BED

… but hey, that’s me!

I think that is where I had it. [checks timestamps] Nope, The last (3rd) photo is my original order.

But I don't have a strong pull yet. What I do feel is wariness about the G5a knot (the knot with cream base, brown stripe, then a lighter top. If set too deep, it is really stiff. Very dense, so I want to set it shallow to insure splay.

What I do know is that I want the knot to be as awesome as the handle! I may have to try some others. Unless I am absolutely convinced of the pairings, I am not going to use much silicone for experimental purposes.

Thanks for idea, I will look at that combo tomorrow.

You have the right idea… a small amount of silicone goes a long way… especially if you want to swap knots later.

That is funny! Walter doesn't have a work bench! My little guy, Sylvester, has discovered the chipmunks that come to eat the spilled bird seed. Not sure how many times he is going to bang his head against the slider in an attempt to make friends!!

Here are the final matches.

Left to right, Aurora Borealis sporting a 26mm G5A from AP Shave Co, Communion decked out with a 28mm Timberwolf from Maggard Razors, Cocobolo wood sporting the 2BED from AP Shave Co, and Cottonwood burl with violet resin, looking dapper with a 26mm SynBad bulb knot from AP Shave Co.

All have reported for duty and await their first swirls in the soap. I look forward to some fun, great shaves for the coming days with these new brushes.

Now, I feel I should pledge NOT to buy any more handles or knots unless I sell off one of my current brushes. At the end of March, I had 4 brushes: 2 SynBads, a RR BC Silvertip plissoft synthetic, and a Yaqi 26mm tuxedo (Mysterious Space). Now I am embarrassed to divulge the exact number. Let's say less than 20!!! Holy cow! What have I become?!

And razors. At the end of last November, I was solely DE, with 2 Slims, a Tech, and my Karve razor. Roughly 10 new/used razors have come through the house, most stayed, some moved on. And now I am mostly SE shaving and only occassionally using a DE.

Honestly, I feel blessed to have such variety, a wealth of simple tools that look great and make a morning chore something special. And many of these tools cause me to stop and consider the men who mentioned them to me, or sold them to me, or gave them to me. My thanks to you all!

Today was the first use of the G5A synthetic knot, 26mm, in the Trotter Handcrafts Aurora Borealis. [Image: Z2suCLC.jpg]

The knot is very dense, lots of scrub, and, amazingly, no scrtich! Very different from the SynBad, but yet has a very soft feeling on the face. I think it matches Andrew P's description on his website. And the Aurora Borealis is a joy to use! Well done, Stubble Daddy!

It’s Monday. Chin up, here we go!
