A bit of a vent, and maybe asking for advice. On the infamous B&B, I have been involved in a thread on Vector or Sabre for 1st SE purchase. One guy posted that he'd love one, but the $190 is a big price, and he'd have to ok it with his wife. Some toady responded with "what's the world coming to, it's just $190, not a big purchase."  The original poster "liked" the response with a laughing face. I posted about how the OP was correct, $200 can be a bit much, and mentioned that at one point in my life, I'd have to budget for such an expense, especially since it was a razor and those are cheap as disposables. Well, Mr. Snark came back at me with:

OH c'mon now... A major purchase??

It's a razor for heaven's sake, not a home or a car.

How can a $200 bucks item be a "major purchase"?? ??

It's a MINOR expenditure that will yield GREAT satisfaction, for a lifetime. In that sense, it surely is a MAJOR "purchase".

He's a member there, and I know better to get into internet pissing contests, but Man, it galls me that someone can be so cavalier with other peoples situation! Pisses me off, to be honest. I'd never say that to anyone, unless I made it clear i was doing me best Enabler impersonation!

What do you think? argue back or drop it. I think I tried, politely, to point out the $200 bucks MAY be a lot to some, and left unsaid that it may be chump change for someone else.

First, I'm sorry you ran into a butt-head.  I think it happens to all of us from time-to-time.  Second, it sounds from what you said as though this is a case where the rule that Silence is Golden applies.  No earthshaking consequence is at stake, the prospective buyer can make up his own mind, and either way, the sands of time will take care of everything.

Thanks, Mike. That is exactly what I needed to hear (or read!). Cooler heads prevail, and I really appreciate your advice. Butt-head's posts are why I only allow friends and family to see my FB stuff, and stopped all news postings. Still had to "mute" some family members who just love to argue politics on social media. My brother's blood pressure was getting too high, seriously, and his doc told him to stop listening to talk radio if it was making him so mad. So my bro did, and totally deep sixed FB!! Says he is calmer now and BP is fine again.

You're welcome Eric.  I'm glad it helped.  BTW your family story reminds me of the tongue-in-cheek statement "The best way to make friends and influence people is to argue about politics on facebook."  (In person is (a) little or no better and (b) more dangerous.)

Gotta go with Mike on this one. There is about a 50/50 chance that I would respond to something like that in a way that may make me feel better short term, but would only instigate the matter. There are a couple of quotes I try to remember in times like those.
