The Canada Shaving Soap arrived today. This is a new to me artisan, from Canada (surprise!), who makes One soap, with high quality ingredients, and completely "scent-free, fragrance free, and perfume free" per his website. It is reported to be fantastic, with great post shave qualities, according to some folks on another forum. I think it cures disease, too. Just kidding, I added that last one.

Weighs in at 175 grams, and packed to tippy top.

He sure is a very proud Canadian. Hope his product is something he is just as proud of.
I know I wouldn't be putting the stars and stripes all over something I made. Unless I was sure it was "Top Flight" "The Bees Knees" or the highest standard..."Skippy".

The Canada Shaving Soap made its debut this morning. Bees knees as far as lathering, Top Flight as far as truly no scent, although I did think I caught a whiff of something powdery when I opened the tub. But I never smelled anything on the puck nor in the lather when it went up my nostrils (yes, I face lather like a fool!). Seriously, no scent. As far as the coveted "Skippy" rating, the Jury is still out. Post shave was good, but I nicked myself twice, or maybe mowed a acne bump. Whatever, it focused my attention on that rather than how great the rest of my face felt, which it did, my face, feel great.

This irritation/poor shave feeling happened all week while using my Karve (4x) and the Yates (2x), but not when using the Schick M or the Sabre. (for those counting, yes, this week had 8 days, Sunday thru Sunday!) So this coming week will be all injector, all the time! And this new soap, to see how it measures up to Mystic Water Sensitive Skin, Ethos Clean, Zingari Man, and House of Mammoth. Stiff competition!

As for the SynBad, it performed well but wobbled in the handle, and popped out as I was rinsing! I found out I hadn't pushed hard enough to get it into the socket when I set it, as I met resistance and thought this is it. But Paul had told me it fit tight and may not need silicone if I was just trying it out in the handle. Anyway, it was funny, not a big deal. I found the error of my setting and will muscle it in better tomorrow. Reminded me of the silly song we sang when we popped dandelion hands, "mommy had a baby and its head popped off!" I did some Google fu on it, and seems that the lyric origin is unknown, but dates back a ways, possibly to Mary Queen of Scots or the French revolution. In all cases, it is agreed that the song had to do with beheadings. Children's nursery rhymes are very Grimm!

But the handle, that was the star! I love it. Can hardly wait to set the knot correctly and enjoy my shaves! I am truly blessed with awesome soaps, razors, brushes, and interweb friends/enablers!

[on the somber side, still deciding what to do with the Karve. it really bothered me with bad shaves on the last outings, with 2 different blades. Maybe I put up with this? I am trying to remember. What I know for sure is that once I discovered (was treated to) using Dave's Vector, my shaves and the face feel have dramatically improved. I seriously am thinking of selling my Karve and keeping only my Tech and Slim, and use the injectors, Sabre, and Vector from now on. I want to try the Blackland Era when it is out, and if it meets all the hype, it will supplant my Karve. Sometimes I hate the thought of selling, as I had just paid to have it polished when I found single edges were better and easier for me. OK, I'll be quiet and quit crying about my first world problems!]

Sorry to hear that the Karve is not working out as well as you'd hoped. I'm in the middle of that stay-or-go with a couple or razors. I'm willing to give them a few more tries with a couple different blades just to be sure, but I'm at the point where I need to either love something or have a deeper sentimental attachment to it in order to keep it.

That’s the same methodology I had to employ in my first two marriages.

A bit of a vent, and maybe asking for advice. On the infamous B&B, I have been involved in a thread on Vector or Sabre for 1st SE purchase. One guy posted that he'd love one, but the $190 is a big price, and he'd have to ok it with his wife. Some toady responded with "what's the world coming to, it's just $190, not a big purchase."  The original poster "liked" the response with a laughing face. I posted about how the OP was correct, $200 can be a bit much, and mentioned that at one point in my life, I'd have to budget for such an expense, especially since it was a razor and those are cheap as disposables. Well, Mr. Snark came back at me with:

OH c'mon now... A major purchase??

It's a razor for heaven's sake, not a home or a car.

How can a $200 bucks item be a "major purchase"?? ??

It's a MINOR expenditure that will yield GREAT satisfaction, for a lifetime. In that sense, it surely is a MAJOR "purchase".

He's a member there, and I know better to get into internet pissing contests, but Man, it galls me that someone can be so cavalier with other peoples situation! Pisses me off, to be honest. I'd never say that to anyone, unless I made it clear i was doing me best Enabler impersonation!

What do you think? argue back or drop it. I think I tried, politely, to point out the $200 bucks MAY be a lot to some, and left unsaid that it may be chump change for someone else.
