Thanks, more good data! And another example of YMMV. I found the Silksmoke to be springy, but not the SynBad.

My goal is to have knots I absolutely love in the beautiful handles you made. Springy or pokey means it will sit in the drawer. I want it out! My wife commented on the birch ones the other day. She liked the Groovy one and was wowed by the dark and white birch handle that has the Cashmere knot!

Synthetic knots are soft, easy and cheap, but have you ever dabbled in higher end 2-band Badger knots? Elite White Manchurian, Oumo SHD, etc.

For me personally, a premium 2-band takes this hobby to the next level and makes it so much more enjoyable. But hey, that’s me! Nothing wrong with liking synthetic knots if that’s your preference!

I am certifiable. Tonight, I washed my face 3 times. Or rather, I scrubbed my face 3 times, using Hub City Birthday Suit soap, the 28mm Black and White knot, and the 26mm 2BED knot.

First, the black and white bled a bit, turning the lather sort of blue.
Second, while dense, it splayed very well AND I felt no poking! So, my first impression was wrong. I not only can live with the knot, but I like it!
Third, the 2BED had only slight pokiness, felt if I pushed to much during swirling, which is when I like to have the brush splay. When I back off, no poking.

Wait... What?!? The color from the tuxedo brush bled into the soap? I've never seen that before. Correct me if I'm wrong folks (Dave? Paul?), but the dyes should be QUITE stabilized before you even get the brush. Heck, they should be stabilized before Maggards gets them from the manufacturer. I'd worry this was from a bad batch, and it may keep bleeding color all the live long day.

Jeepers, I'd be inclined to test it again. If it bleeds on time 2 or 3, reach out to Maggards.

Very strange. I’ve never seen, or even heard of a synthetic knot bleeding dye out. I’ve purchased many of those same exact knots from Maggards over the years and not had that issue.

If it were me, I would test lather it a few more times and if it continues, contact Brad at Maggards. I’m confident he’ll send you a new one or refund your money. He sells a lot of them, so if there’s an issue with one or perhaps an entire batch, he’ll want to know.

Thanks guys. I did rinse the brush out and immediately loaded again. No bleeding of color. I will test it again when I get home today. I will email Brad as well, to keep him informed.

Great to have you guys letting me know about this. I hesitate to write sometimes, thinking I am just droning on and on about ME. But I never gave this a second thought, as I have limited experience with brushes, most of which are not dark. Thank you!
