Help/Tips request for knot setting from any and all!

I made up my mind, I am going to set a knot or two. Dave Dave in KY, what do you recommend for adhesive, if I want to try it first before setting permenantly? And do you use washers or something to get the loft right?

Thanks, guys

Love that song. And I'm perfectly happy to be Eric #2. You have seniority round these parts.  Big Grin

My name isn't Dave, but I am still going to butt in here, lol.

Paul Stubble Daddy  used this stuff on my brush. I was able too cleanly remove the knot. Replaced with the same adhesive, didn't like the setting so I pulled it and reset it again with more spacers. It's now really glued in, but I bet I could cleanly pull it if I needed.

I also am not named Dave, but I've also found that pretty much any silicone adhesive works best for temporary knot setting. As far as spacers you can use just about anything that will fit and is the right thickness. I prefer wood spacers, but that's mostly because I've tried to drill out knots that people have spaced with metal, and have jacked up a bit or two.

That'll work. I haven't used weights but any silicone waterproof sealant would work. I use this from Wally World I think and have done at least half a dozen with no issues them staying or removing. I do let it set up 24 hours or more to cure all the way thru.

Oops forgot about spacers... I used 2 quarters in mine.

They were readily available and added some noticible heft to the brush. Also added value, about 50¢ worth. Lol!

Many thanks to Dave in KY, Smattayu, mrdoug and anyone else I forgot, for all the tips and tricks. Paul Stubble Daddy has some handles that I like, so this will be a group effort helping me get a brush knotted! I have reached out to Andrew at AP Shave Co regarding loft and setting for the SynBad brushes I like best, so this is really turning out well for info gathering!

I have said it before, but it bears repeating: this is an great group of guys to spend time with.

If it were not for mask induced acne (aka maskne), this would have been stellar. But still, a great shave!

From time to time I lurk a bit here. To this point, I have refrained from giving any knot setting advice. Based on my vast reservoir of knowledge (based on setting one knot), I would recommend keeping the silicone or any other adhesive inside the handle and avoid smearing it on the brush. I am not disclosing how I came to know this piece of handy information.
