The first shave was with an Israeli Red on its 8th shave. Still comfy and close, but I thought why not get a new blade going. The shaves have been like described above. However, I am noticing stubble returning sooner than when I use my CB Karve with the B plate. So I am getting a close and comfy shave, but not as long lasting. Three shaves in, it could just be my technique. The Yates has a well defined angle, and if I am more towards the cap, I am not shaving as close. I discovered that the other morning, too much stubble after a pass!
The Yates also tends to pull most of the lather off, the way some guys have described the Rex adjustable. I have to be careful, taking too many strokes can feel drag and irritation about to happen.
It is a nice razor, glad I have it. I am thinking of getting the stubby 3.25" handle and the more aggressive H plate (it has positive exposure whereas the M plate has neutral, like plate B of the Karve. I am not a big fan of feeling lots of blade).
And after adding the Karve razor, I sold off many of my other razors, keeping only my Slim and a pre-War Tech. And I joined the Minimalist club. Now I am no longer in an M mindset, as I added 4 different single edge razors, the Yates, and I just found a mint Blackland Blackbird on the BST for a nice price. By next week, I'll be up to 9 razors, from only 3 for the last 12 months or so! But I am enjoying the variety, and now more than ever need to do same set up for a week to really learn these razors!
You're a Wild Man now Eric......................a Blackbird ?!?!?! I've been on the fence with them as the Dart was a rough shave for me. I read it's a nice smooth shave but has blade feel. Surprised your trying one. I've always been curious but not willing to blind buy it. Hope you LOVE it !
Thanks Dave! I hope I do, too! I found a minty one here on the BST, so I went nuts and bought it. I'll be more than happy to lend it to you after I give it a whirl for a week. Folks rave about it, and I just thought now was the time to see which group I agree with! Loving the Yates. Do you find it to be a lather-remover? I feel a little guilty spending so much, even used, on a Blackbird, but I love the Vector, even with it keeping me on my toes while I shave. Hoping the 'bird is smooth and comfy. celestino seems to use it exclusively, until I noted recently that he has tried out the Yates plates. I agree with him whole-heartedly on Mystic Water soap, but only use the unscented myself.
I guess I just decided last month to explore a bit more. Maybe it was due to sending my CB Karve out to AlanH81 to get polished, and that forced me to use other razors. And getting that Parker from you just opened my eyes to the single edge razors. So, explore a bit and then keep what I use most and move the rest to another home as needed!
