I had joined a monthly restraint, and failed when I got a coupon for a Yates razor. And I needed to restock some soap.  And I had found a couple of Schick injectors on the BST and the 'Bay.  So, the mailman dropped off lots of packages yesterday and today.
First up, the Yates. Thank you, Jake YatesPrecision for fast shipping and an awesome product!

And last, a Type G, like Mr. Grant used in the movie my avatar is from.  No blade in it, so I will sacrifice a Pella then load up a Schick.  But I want to try the all now, as well as a new soap using yesterday's razor and brush for a better comparison.  If only I had 4 faces to shave, ha ha!

EDIT 24 April 2021
For myself: the Type G I have is, according to Schick Injectors for Dummies over on B&B, "The third variant was produced between 1947/48 and 1952. It is distinguished by the fact the ferrule is squared and the spring says Eversharp Schick on it. This razor came in various handle styles.
Style 1 - ivory / cream colored handle."

Maiden voyage of the Yates M-921 today.

Wow! I am impressed. The Yuge space between the blade and the bar had me hesitant, but the angle was intuitive, the blade feel practically non-existent, and it was very audible. What struck me while shaving was how it sounded and felt like a single edge, of which I have only the Parker and the Vector to compare to, having not used the Type G Schick yet. But it was an easy feel to historically tough patches, like the jaw hinge point by the ear, the way the anatomy of the jaw curves under. I typically get a bit of burn or roughness there with a DE. The Parker and the Vector handle the geography well, leaving my face smooth there with no irritation. Well, the Yates did the same there, really surprising me, as no other DE does well there unless I really am attentive. And even then, my beloved CB Karve can cause that irritated feeling, instead of that refreshed feel.

I am very glad I added the Yates. I dropped out of the pass around, but am already planning to monitor my shaves closely this week for closeness, and may have to consider the H plate! But no hybrid, as the teeth on the open combs tend to bother my delicate mug! One thing at a time, I need to try going a month without buying more gear. So more shaves with the M plate and let's see what happens!

Hope you all have a good day and upcoming week. Like Fluffy , we are due for some Weather later this week, whatever doesn't dump on him will be heading up here, brewing a nor'easter is what I am reading. Take Care!

Weather update: Yup, went from Watch this midday to Warning now, but Monday afternoon into Tuesday evening. Oh joy, driving to work with snow gear packed: boots, gloves, hat, shovel. If really bad, overnight clothes for work the next day, but I don't think this is that bad yet!

Some thoughts on the Yates. I have had 2 more shaves, with a new Nacet blade. The first shave was with an Israeli Red on its 8th shave. Still comfy and close, but I thought why not get a new blade going. The shaves have been like described above. However, I am noticing stubble returning sooner than when I use my CB Karve with the B plate. So I am getting a close and comfy shave, but not as long lasting. Three shaves in, it could just be my technique. The Yates has a well defined angle, and if I am more towards the cap, I am not shaving as close. I discovered that the other morning, too much stubble after a pass!

The Yates also tends to pull most of the lather off, the way some guys have described the Rex adjustable. I have to be careful, taking too many strokes can feel drag and irritation about to happen.

It is a nice razor, glad I have it. I am thinking of getting the stubby 3.25" handle and the more aggressive H plate (it has positive exposure whereas the M plate has neutral, like plate B of the Karve. I am not a big fan of feeling lots of blade).

And after adding the Karve razor, I sold off many of my other razors, keeping only my Slim and a pre-War Tech. And I joined the Minimalist club. Now I am no longer in an M mindset, as I added 4 different single edge razors, the Yates, and I just found a mint Blackland Blackbird on the BST for a nice price. By next week, I'll be up to 9 razors, from only 3 for the last 12 months or so! But I am enjoying the variety, and now more than ever need to do same set up for a week to really learn these razors!

You're a Wild Man now Eric......................a Blackbird ?!?!?! I've been on the fence with them as the Dart was a rough shave for me. I read it's a nice smooth shave but has blade feel. Surprised your trying one. I've always been curious but not willing to blind buy it. Hope you LOVE it !
