But first, check out this cocobolo wood handle. This one has a story that Paul aka Stubble Daddy told us in one of his posts. Paul, please correct anything I get wrong, as I want to keep it straight in my head, if no where else! I believe the wood was from some that his Dad gave him on Paul's recent visit to Alaska. I just loved the deep, grainy look. The photo here, as well as others I took, don't seem to do it justice. It is so rich in color and pattern in real life. Maybe I'll try a short video to show 360 view. And it feels great in hand, maybe heavier than maple? Whatever, this handle will be a favorite.

Now to the knot. It is a 2BED 26mm from AP Shave Co. I had it in two other handles, and both times found it had too much scritch for my face. When my last (maybe?) bunch of handles came, this knot seemed to work best with the cocobolo in appearance. I believe I set it higher, using at least 1 if not 2 beer gaskets (I misplaced my notes on how I set each handle, and am looking high and low for them!). This morning, it was like night and day difference, a different brush! Still a little scritch, but now it is much more pleasant. I loaded extra long, as Patriot had suggested in another thread, and had a spectacular lathering experience.

So onto Thursday, and let's make it pay for Monday! (another story for another time. Mostly me whining about mistreatment by bosses. For now, let's just say that after 8 years of stellar performance evals, I can't believe the things said to me in a closed door meeting.)
Yikes Eric, that really bites. Just goes to show, no good deed goes unpunished.

At least the 2bed is behaving, even if management isn't. I have three of them, between 24 and 26 mm. I think i may like them better than the Synbad. Everyone of my brushes are set high with spacers. I find that a necessity regardless of which knot I'm using.

Hope the Cocobolo continues to treat you well. Happy Thursday!

Hey Eric. Glad you like the Cocobolo handle! That one turned out great… and seemed to get a lot of attention on that “other” forum that I’m no longer allowed to post my handle pics on. Doh!

Yes, my Father (woodworker/turner and master craftsman) gave me that wood. I have only 3 blanks remaining for handles. So there won’t be many out in the wild!

When turning/cutting Cocobolo, the fine dust seriously irritates the skin and lungs. I always wear an N95 mask while turning, but I was wearing shorts and sandals (per usual) when I turned that one. After I roughed out the blank, my legs and feet were itching and burning! I had to go shower off and throw on some real clothes/shoes to finish your handle. Haha.

I’ll finish the other 3 remaining blanks someday (probably when I forget about the itching), but I will not be making many Cocobolo handles in the future! Too bad since it’s one of the most beautiful woods out there.

Here’s some pics from the light box if you want them:

Those are gorgeous, and that is what I see in real life. Thank you for posting them. And I am glad you put clothes on to finish the handle! Sorry, although, that great itching was endured. Thanks for taking one for the team!

Much happened in the last few days, including today, and we are only part way through it! Welcome to Monday. But for us here on Mayflower Hill (more a bump), Monday held a great surprise. Showing up for her weekly infusion of saline, my wife and I noted that the medication we fought for was there to be hooked up to the IV pump!! We expected it next week, but she is getting it as I write this! So that is the most important thing!  Everything else is minor, trivial, or just forgotten already.

Work dealt me a body blow that took the wind out of me for a while. The upshot is a reprimand that called into question my professionalism and my credibility to explain myself. It got me down. But I decided to just prove them wrong, and show them more of what I have been doing all along, being a good pharmacist!

More thoughts.

I ordered some more knots, looking for the right fit for the handles. And I reset the G5A knot, in order to get more splay. I am getting better at removing the knot without damaging it or the handle!

During the shave, it looked like I managed to poke my chin! Not a cut, but like a pin poke. Bled a lot, but I eventually stopped the leak. Last pass, ATG, and otherwise it was a perfect shave with the Schick M adjustable set to 4.

Replaced our old smoke detectors, learning about the wiring for these interconnected units. Managaged to get a light cut on my left thumb.

During the knot resetting, I reached into the box of supplies and forgot that I had an injector in the box with other stuff. So, to outdo my left hand, my right hand decided to slice the tip of my index finger on the injector blade.

What I learned is Monday got me good! Let's hope Tuesday decides to be a no contact sport!!

Hope you have a good day Eric.
Oh and you're on restriction with sharp things for a day or two maybe three days suspension, lol.
