Great weight in by Paul!

I was going to say, our kids got some HP Chromebooks from their schools once the pandemic really got under way. They’ve held up fairly good for the last year but they’re pretty basic as far as computing power goes. Word processing and Zoom is about all they can handle. If you’re 100% sure that’s all you’re going to be doing...should fit the bill. With some care I’d imagine they last at least a few years, which isn’t too bad for $200.

What models are they using for zoom and how well? How many thumbnails can they see?

I have 2 thumbnails. When sitting next to my wife, sometimes I can see 4 thumbnails. Depends on where her hand is.   Tongue

Serious info, we think we only need it for email, online ordering of merchandise, checking medical sites (everyone seems to have a "patient portal" these days), and maybe a youtube video. Her neuropathies make holding a heavier computer literally cause pain to her lap. This was getting so much better, before insurance denied further treatment. I have my eye on a Lenovo at the World of Wally that tips the scales at 1 lbs. And I believe we have 30 days, as long as none of you make me nose my coffee on the keyboard with something you post!

Got a.modrl number or link, 1lb seems very light, even for a chromebook. Curious what the reason is (tiny screen, maybe? Some are as low as 10").

You mention the laptop on her lap... Another consideration is one of these...

My wife uses one for working the the computer in bed.

Just a thought.

Thanks, we did get her something like that. Small fiber muscle neuropathy is what is getting her. Tends to be skeletal muscle, which is arms and legs. So holding her arms up was very difficult 2 years ago. We thought multiple sclerosis, but tests said no, it was the other. Treatment got her to where she can do more again, still not as before, but not invalided either. Now we see the deterioration coming back.

But the point, we will have to try that tray again! Thanks for the reminder, mrdoug

Presuming this is the right one...

I was about to say it's a mediatek processor, I'd be wary... But it gets pretty good reviews from Toms.

Is 10" enough screen for her? Definitely will be small as your traditional laptops are 14 - 17" approx.

As a point of reference compare it to your phone screen (maybe 2x as big) or dial down your tv screen (1/4 of the 40" living room tv, for example).

A big perk for you... according to Toms, the 2 lbs is a docked weight. So without the keyboard attached it might be 1.5 or so.

mrdoug Thank You! you are doing all my "legwork", haha. Wally world also has the C340 15, which Consumer reports gave a fairly nice rating to. I will check Tom's for it as well, unless you beat me to it! just kidding. I don't expect you to do my homework! At work now so I better do company work!
