Completely agree. But I also shave post shower most days. Part habit, part enjoying it as a start of my day.

I do think you can get a great shave with just a face wash/rinse though.

To your question andrewjs18, I often take cool showers in the summer. Just more refreshing and eliminates the "hot box".

I'd agree that cold water shaving is probably the best answer.

However, when the subject of cold water shaving comes up it always reminds me of an old friend for the mid-70's. We'll just call him Steve. This story will be less funny, without his actual voice. However. he was a particularly stuffy professor of linguistics at a major university and spoke with that clinched-teeth, north-eastern snootiness reminiscent of the late William F. Buckley, Jr. He is one of the only people that I have ever met who was utterly devoid of even the slightest trace of humor. Since we both shaved with straight razors one day he decided to share with me a discovery that he had made. .

Steve: Today, while shaving I made a remarkable discovery.
Me: What discovery was that Steve?
Steve: The water heater went out today and I was, therefore, forced to shave with cold water. I was not aware that could be done, but it went remarkably well.
Me: You've never shaved with cold water before?
Steve: No sir. I was unaware that was possible. I may, on some future occasion repeat that intriguing experiment to verify that my results were not anomalous.

OK. That's probably one of those -- you just had to be there stories. It still cracks me up every time I think of it though.
