I’m not sure when I joined this forum, a few years ago, give or take. I think shortly after its inception. I was brand new to wet shaving then. Over the course of my first year in wet shaving, I think I ordered enough soap and aftershave for a decade. I bought razors, scoured antique shops for hidden treasures and then realized I had more stuff than I needed. I imposed a 16 month moratorium on any shaving purchases. It was hard at first, then as time went on, I simply shaved. Slowly, empty soap containers found the garbage, as did aftershave bottles, the cheap brushes I bought early on that lasted longer than they probably should of also found the garbage. The blade supply dwindled and as of yesterday I was down to two soap containers and 12 aftershave bottles, 50 blades, and a partridge in a pear tree. The razors are still egregious, but a guy has to collect something.

Along the way I never stopped peeking in on the forum. I even dabbled in things I wouldn’t of otherwise. I still use a fountain pen at work, albeit traditional watches for me didn’t take, as blasphemous as it is, Apple Watch is what I wear daily. I must say many of my friends have appreciated handwritten letters over the last couple of years. Time still matters. Give someone your time of a handwritten letter, it’s appreciated across the board; at least in my experience.

This forum has made me want to end my moratorium an many accord. Thankfully, beer in hand, the moritorium is over.... soaps, aftershaves, and razors coming this week. Old news to many of you but I’m anxious to try the charcoal goods and Timless hardware I have coming and all the soaps and splashes referenced here over the last 16 months.

Shaving sobriety has come, lets get drunk again.

I was the same way, but it wasn't because I wanted to buy every new soap that came out. I just wanted to try different things. A badger is different than a synthetic/boar/horse brush so I wanted to give them all a spin. It was the same thing with razors and soap. They all shave so differently it was worth it to me to try out a bunch of them. That time has passed for me though and I do splurge on something every once in awhile like the timeless I bought a couple of months ago, but it is nice to sit back and enjoy what I have. I'm pretty sure I will buy the razorock GC when it comes out, but I don't feel the need to try out anything new anymore. Even though I read posts that say, "No, dude, you SERIOUSLY need to try (Insert soap here). It is WAY better than anything I have now."

I'm not buying it. I have enough soap to last twenty years right now. I'm actually trying to get it down to 25 or so. I think I'm going to bag up a bunch and PIF the ones that get no love to someone new honestly. Not because they are crap, but because I don't use them. Some were nice enough in the shaving community to do that for me.

Welcome back! I just started buying again after I think 4 or 5 years now! I'm never doing that again - Buying 5 years worth of creams and the like. I have 4/5 soap/balm combos that I'm going to 3017. Then I'll buy again.

Good thread. l went too far overboard as well. I have only three razors but for the last four years have only used an ATT Kronos. I have six brands of blades but I have hundreds of them. I am now up to 90 various soaps and creams not counting the duplicates I own. And I am really jonesing for some new brushes. I currently own 16 but I want so bad to order about 5 more. All of my brushes are 2 band silver tip so they are not cheap. My moratorium is the weak dollar. The brushes I want to purchase come from Germany. When I began purchasing them I used a benchmark of 168€ which converted to approximately $179. Today 168€ converts to $207 and it went as high as $210. It may not seem like a high difference but 5 brushes would cost me an additional $140. So, my moratorium ends when that conversation is in the low $180's.

In addition, there was a time when there were not too many new soap and cream manufactures. I could generally go to one mail order house and purchase what I wanted. I have a list of several soap and creams I want to purchase. Now in order to get all of them I must go to at least 3 sales companies. I wanted to get a Harley Davidson. I did but now I have 4. When will it end?? I think "andrewjs18" is right lets get drunk and think about when will the moratorium end tomorrow.

The wife actually had to yell at me to stop buying up Eagles Super Bowl stuff. Thinking about a divorce - I don't need that negativity in my life.
