Shaving Brush Restorations

As a collector, I have now started down the path of restoring some of the shaving brushes I have picked up at various antique stores, flea markets, etc.

This is my first restore/my practice restoration brush. It is an Ever-Ready 500PB with a new silvertip knot.

To restore it, I removed the old knot. I cleaned and polished the handle and I used Rub N Buff to restore the lettering and installed a new knot.

All of this was my first attempt at a restore and I now feel confident moving on to my next brush!

Well done- I'd never think that was your first restoration effort based on the images!

What a beautiful restoration. Also, I love the handle. It may not be made from snazzy materials but its shape is striking and the history behind it (when produced, previous owners, former geographic locations, etc.) must be amazing.

I've never done it but I'd love to try. Stuff like this is right up my alley!

The vague plan is to, this year, learn a bit about brush restoration and see what I can do...

I agree- those handles look almost tribal. Very unique; I would likely leave several handles as is and just replace the knots. They have earned their stripes and look cool as is!

Absolutely! I have a brush that was restored for me, a Century 4 handle with a new TGN fan knot. We decided to put a coating on the handle, which is wood, to protect it from water. Other than that, one can easily see where the original shine has worn away. It would not have been difficult to replace the original with an even all-over shine but I definitely did not want that. Rather, it was the history of the brush that I wanted to shine through and, to me, the brush is more beautiful for it.
