I was a bit short in my shave description yesterday. Sorry ... I was tired. This was another sample that Mike was kind enough to send my way. Anyway it was a very nice shave and I really liked the scent. The scent of the soap, without a matching AS, still hung around for a while and I like that quality in a soap. I enjoyed that shave, I would not add it to my rotation because of reasons, but a great shave and scent nonetheless.

I did make the mistake of using my Vulfix brush yesterday. I pulled it out of my “trade bin” to give it yet another chance. Love the weight and feel of the handle. It’s hand tied, Isle of Man, blah blah blah. But “pure badger” translates into: crap hair that should have been thrown away. Let’s face it, the Chinese sell Silver tip badger for the same price that the established brands sell pure badger for. This pure badger is very prickly. My boar brushes have been less prickly, even when brand new. But enough of that.

The Deets-
Very nice late morning shave today. Cold front came through the other day and we are back into the 60’s and have had a ton of rain dumped on us. So Bay Rum sounded good. Loaded the brush for about 20 seconds and dropped it in the brush warmer while I got things ready. Man, I am really digging the warm lather shaves. So nice!

10 laps on cotton and 50 on leather and it was go time. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. That was a very relaxing, smooth shave. I discovered something strange during this shave. I do like my SR shaves so much better. The DE shaves are smooth, quick, deliver a very good shave and can be fulfilling, but they are different. It feels strange to me using a DE now. Not bad, just different. The SR was up to the task today and delivered a BBS for the win! A nice warm post lather while I cleaned my shave gear too.

I wrapped everything up with a quick rinse and pat dry. Followed that up with a splash of the matching aftershave and everything was right as rain! You know it. So let’s see what this dreary day holds for us. Life is good!

So ... someone was telling me that I should bleach the tips on that pure badger and maybe that will help.

I don’t know about that, but it reminded me of a story. True story. When my brother and I were kids, we had long blonde hair. My brother wanted to try bleaching the ends of his. So we put it in a ponytail and dunked it in an old butter tub full of straight bleach. Not sure how long we had it in there. But he rinsed the bleach out and the whole ponytail fell off. Oh man it was too funny.

An outstanding day for a Monday. I enjoyed a very nice, warm lather shave. A 3 pass BBS for the win! Then the missus brought me some, fresh out the dryer, clothes. That is awesomeness right there. Then she hit the donut shop and scored some of those sausage with jalapeños and cheese, wrapped in dough. She had also set out ribs for dinner. Life is good!

I also received a wicked straight razor storage box from Eric. It came in the mail today and I am so stoked!
