Shave Sticks

I did a search and see very little here as regards shave sticks. I use them all the time and love 'em. I have Arko, Wilkinson Sword, Palmolive, Lea (new improved) & Valobra. All of these are great, but as perhaps you have read somewhere the Arko stick is the best bang for the buck going in shave soaps. They are easy to use & fast. I face lather with them as that works better for me (at least). I encourage everyone to try one at least one at least once. The Arko stick is silly cheap to buy and if you don't like it, well then you can use it as an air freshener in the bathroom as the scent is stout. 

Totally agree and they can't be beat when it comes to traveling kit. I've got several sticks from PAA, DR Harris and Taylor of Bond Street.

I am not a fan of shave sticks at all.  Hard to lather for me when I attempted it. (I bowl lather almost exclusively.)  Not a whole lot of variety.  They make a gooey mess unless they come in a decent holder.  Some have suggested mashing them into a bowl but, to me, that defeats the purpose.  No thanks.  I'll stick with regular soaps and creams.  For those of you who like them (and I realize I'm probably the only one who has tried them who doesn't care for them), go for it.  They tend to be very reasonably priced and obviously work for many.

It's funny, I'm not sure why but everyone seems to forget about Mama Bear Soaps. She currently has some interesting offerings in stick form, but I believe she'll make any of her stock list in stick form if you ask her.

Freddy, it helps to soak the end of the shave stick in hot water for a few minutes before face lathering. Try that.

Thanks for the tip but, honestly, I have so many soaps and creams that I'm happy with that I just never think to go back to the sticks (and I have a few).

Glycerin (Melt & Pour) based soaps seem to be taking a back seat to other artisan soaps the last few years.

All evidence has been buried. All tapes have been erased.

I love La Toja and keep a couple of shave sticks around for traveling, although in general at home I prefer pucks.

Palmolive stick is my go-to for travel. You can often find it cheaper than Arko at some places online. I think I ordered mine internationally, and it was just over $3 shipped (granted, it was on sale).
Having said that, Arko will always have a special place in my heart. I still have my first stick, its going on 3 years old now and about halfway gone. I bust it out occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic.

I agree with Freddy that they can make a mess if they don't have a decent holder to put the stick back in once you're done your shave. the arko sticks immediately come to mind. that said though, I never had issues lathering them up.
