Dragonsbeard Frank...I think if you will go back to post 108 or so and read forward, Eric was pretty clear what he was doing to change the design, even admitting he really had no idea how changing dome height and increasing exposure would change performance...which still baffles me.

I think this passaround is a really stupid idea. Seriously. All just to show people how their $500 razor "should" perform? Just to protect your reputation? Still dumb.

Anyone that bought a Janus based solely on your or Mark's opinion is a fool. Especially if they read to...and past...post 108.

You've got plenty of people running around here putting you and your products up on a pedestal. I dont get why you think your reputation is at stake. Seems silly on a lot of levels.

Are the LEs going to be retrofitted to make them look like/perform like the prototype? If not, using a prototype that is better than the razor you actually get to keep can do no good, at all, as a whole. All it can do is piss people off about what they didn't get and increase returns.

This train wreck just wont stop. It's kinda sad to watch.

I’m with loot here in that the pass around can’t do much right now. Perhaps your own curiosities will be satisfied, but loot pretty much hits the nail on the head.

I’m still curious about the retrofit idea. New doors would be needed and a larger piece of metal on the center piece? I cannot tell much other than from photos.

But then again, perhaps this whole project is too far gone and a new project is a better idea. Maybe even a new name/company. Who knows.

Posting Freak
As Shane Blackland Razors  posted above, he, and I can add several other razor makers have encountered bumps along the road to a great product and clearly the Janus Adjustable has as well.  I'm reasonably confident that with patience and understanding form his buyers Eric will overcome the challenges he's faced with.  And further to the post above, so long as the members posting here refrain from personal attacks and inappropriate commentary this thread will stay open.  Obviously the Janus Adjustable is an ambitious project but what a sweet looking razor.

I really would like to try the prototype. Even others call this as a stupid idea, I really wonder how it shaves.
And I am keeping LE, since I like using it on lower settings, and it is the most beautiful razor in my den.
All of my 3 piece razors are really look like each other except Charcoal.

Agreed. Instead of doing a comparison of the prototype, fitting new doors to the existing model would change dome shape and blade exposure. It may even improve on the prototype as it's lighter. At least then Eric and testers are working with something tangible. It would also save a lot of time getting parts re-machined.

There is an idea..."fix" one of the dud LEs that are sent back and use it in a passaround to the 50ish buyers to evaluate for remediation of the lot. Good thinking Mr Neko.

For your information! Just so others know the real facts, there were 3 other people that were the ones who were pushing for more blade exposure and  Eric chose to listen to their suggestions and made the changes that are now this latest Janus.

It troubles me to have to issue a rebuttal to you at a time when the world is consumed with far more serious matters.

You seem ultra defensive about the events that have unfolded....I never mentioned you or anyone else by name.
I made an observation about the pitfalls of razors that are designed by committee. That is fair game and and you
don't get to decide what is within or off limits editorially.

As you mention, there were a number of people offering 'input'....so shave guru doesn't point to you or your partner

It seems you feel some responsibility/guilt for having had some influence on people's purchase decisions, as suggested
by your comments below, but that is no reason to lash out at me. I'm not stirring anything...it seems you are

Ok so I've been given the ok to post up what was decided in my conversation with Eric yesterday. I feel that some of this falls back on me ....

I feel that based on my reviews back when using the prototype may or may have not had an influence on some people's decision to lay down their $500 in for what should have been improved new Janus that was just released. Again I feel like my reputation is on this line here as well and I'm not sure but I'm guessing maybe Mark feels the same as I do.

Tester28, seriously dude. Take a step back and be constructive. I hate to say something like this, we can all lean towards positivity especially with what's happening in the world. Shaving with $500 razors or more if they're a Wolfman is an incredibly privileged situation. Just take step back and reflect. Best.

James I would be totally onboard if making a few changes to the LE would give folks and idea of what the Prototype shaved like. Just so you know this purposed pass around is  not just about myself and Mark saving face and our reputations but in the discussion with Eric and talking over not only his frustrations and disappointment with the LE feedback etc but he made a decision to go back to the original prototype head design minus the large doors. Also looking back I think we both came to the conclusion that we wished that maybe there had been a pass around of the prototype and he could have gathered a lot more feedback and maybe things might have gone in a different direction than the way they turned out. Yes hindsight is 20/20 but it was still discussed. So how we came to the conclusion to do a pass around was to let folks know what the next generation of the Janus will shave like compared to the LE.. I see your points and they make sense on different levels  and I’ll discuss this with Eric before moving forward.

Can we move past this gentleman? Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, but this is getting ridiculous. Let’s talk about the razor and not other potential influence. Frank and Mark do this community a favor by trying razors and giving their personal opinion. It would be great if more people would do the same and this forum is used for its purpose and not grown men bickering about a $500 razor....talk about first world problems...
