Eric...would it be possible to have the polisher provide some photos of their mirror polish? It doesn't have to be a razor, a random part is OK. I get it's hard to show in a photograph. Maybe a brief explanation of the types of industries they produce a mirrored SS finishes for would work too. A definition of what they consider mirrored maybe.

Any kind of verification of the types finishes you are claiming would be appreciated. If the PVD is color only....it's a legitimate question. Thanks in advance.

Sure. That shouldn't be a problem.

Here is a photo I pulled from their website.

Notice:

Gentlemen I have given some thought to this and I think a pass around of the prototype might be a good idea the more I think about it.

Unfortunately, there is a limited time before the prototype razor has to come back to get some of the updates put on it like the new doors & bridges for example. Also the razor is going with me to the Maggard Show which is June 1st so based on time I can send it out and the time it has to be back for the updates it can only go out to the first 8 members who sign up for the pass around.

We can probably do one after the changes so if you’d rather wait for the production model to give the Janus a try that is OK.  I’m not sure if you know the cost I have into this prototype but it’s probably more than you think so the razor has to be shipped first class with the proper amount of insurance on it which is $1,200 and each person can keep the razor for 4 days maximum and then ship it to the next person.  I wish we had more time but we don’t, but I thought since there seems to be an interest in the razor and it’s not inexpensive a few members would like to try it.  The first 8 to sign up will get the prototype to try out and my apologies to those that didn’t get in on this list. Also, the razor can only be shipped CONUS as there is not enough time to ship outside the USA on this pass around.

Dragonsbeard aka Frank has been kind enough and agreed to keep track of the razor and manage the list. So please send him a pm at 1pm or after and he’ll take the names in order and also please send him the tracking # once you ship the razor out to the next person on the list so he can keep track of it’s whereabouts. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks all for your interest in the Janus razor

Kind regards,
Eric

Unfortunately I started my downsizing before I knew I would be comparing the Janus. I know it’s Blasphemy but I am the one oddball that prefers the shave of the WR1 over the WR2 and I have used the .95, 1.15 and the 1.25OC/ 1.35 SB.  I had the B&R adjustable and it was a great razor, I never had a chance to try a Rocnel 2.0.

I've got each of those if you need to borrow it ... or would like to for the shave off. Just let me know.

That mirror polish is pretty darn nice. If you simply offered that and the all black, I think you’d have a lot of happy customers.

Simplicity seems to be an ongoing theme here.

Why coat, when the polish is so nice and 316 is already pretty resistant?
Why a lube port when you can include maintenance instructions with the razor (like Karve with brass maintenance)?

This might let you manufacture and offer product at a better price point and potentially add many more buyers for a fantastic product.

But I’m no marketing or engineering expert. These are just thoughts.

Those are some Beautiful options! My Favorites are the all Gold, the all White Gold, and the Black with White Gold accents. I’m drooling! I like the addition of the PVD coating if it adds wear resistance as well as corrosion resistance. I’m imagining that it’s much like some of the available coatings on handguns if I’m not mistaken. I also like the idea of Polished Stainless only if it was on par with Wolfman.

I appreciate the offer but with Eric willing to do a pass around maybe one of the members who signs up will be one who loves the WR2 so they can give a more realistic comparison. Based on what I’m hearing I will compare it to CG lev 1 & 2, GC .84, Timeless .68 and RS10 and if time do a side by side with the BBS1 and WR1 .74 Ti
