When it comes to my searches in antique stores for razors, let me paraphrase one of my favorite lines from Spaceballs:

I AIN'T FOUND NOTHIN'

Seriously, I'm so jealous of people who find stuff in the wild.

From an antique store just around the corner from my house I scored a Brownie Set(Old Type) in excellent condition, a late 40's Super Speed in excellent condition, Allegheny Instruments Corporation 4/8 near wedge that is one of my favorite razors, Rodger's XY Quality 5/8 belly hollow in fantastic original condition, and a few other straights that have been cleaned up and rescaled, not to mention an Old Spice decanter shaped like a pirate's spyglass, full of Shulton formula Old Spice aftershave splash that is still phenomenal in terms of all-around performance.

I'm at work at the moment so I don't have photos of all of them, but one of these days I'll get around to sharing some pics of my finds...

I don't bother with antique shops anymore. But you find me a nice estate sale or flea market... those are the gold mines.

truth be told, locally I never find anything. when I'm out of state is when I'll usually find some stuff.

a lot of times though I'll find that razors in antique shops are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. as a perfect example, this place I went to in Austin had a standard gillette tech for $42......I also find a lot of straight razors, but I know next to nothing about them so I don't even bother looking at them any longer.

Recent antique store haul, except for the Merkur.

1963 Gillette Slim, early 1900's Boker straight, Avon Tribute in Barometer bottle, and an Italian leather-wrapped decanter.

We are very limited with any good antique shops, here, in Vancouver, so I gave up looking four years ago. Big Grin

Congratulations on the finds, Andrew. Happy2

I think that antique shops and even flea markets can be frustrating in locations in and around large cities. That;s been my experience searching the greater NYC and Philadelphia regions.

my greatest finds have probably been at an antique shop that was going out of business in Gettysburg, PA a few years back. I think I scored all of the razors for like $5/each, with several of them being fat boys and slims...
