Either way, it appears you were over valuing your Brush when asking for a Wolfman for it.  How is what the guy who bought from you any worse a situation?

This is a very interesting question to the OP because even if the Wolfman in question was not the one acquired through the trade, ANY Wolfman is more valuable than a Morris and Forndran brush brand new in my opinion, and typically dollar wise as well.  I currently own both a Wolfman and two M&F brushes and I would not trade someone an M&F for a Wolfman if I were attempting to give someone a fair deal.  Thats just my subjective two cents on that.

Very astute point brucered brings up there.

Does anyone remember the old TV show Home Improvement? There was an episode where Tim the Toolman was considering buying one of his sons a collectible/memorabilia item, I think it may have been a Nascar race car miniature, he's in the shop humming and hawing over the purchase because its pretty expensive - he asks the owner if he thinks the item would be a good investment and the owner replies "absolutely, its doubled in value since I got it". My point is that its generally a free market and if you have willing buyers and willing sellers agreeing on a price then who are we to take issue with that. If you don't like it don't do it and don't deal with people who do. You're free to do that as well.

And here I thought spending 550.00 on a razor was jackassery....

I guess that's cheap.

I don't think what your buyer did was shady at all. He didn't rip you off in any way. As much as I don't like people using the BST to buy and flip gear (I just think it's poor taste), they have every right to do so. I mean, you sold your item for asking price. Why do you care what the new owner does with it? It's his now. Or are you just upset that you didn't sell it for what he's asking?

What you need to do first is.....Announce you are buying it. Start a thread saying how awesome it is. Wait a couple months. Then sell it.

That seems to be the norm for a lot of these hard to obtain items.

Isn't the OP selling M&F brushes, the reason TSN had to implement that rule? I think he complained about that here too, because he couldn't buy and try them all or flip them for more than Lee sells them for. I guess he should have just went to Ebay with it.

brucered made reference to the thread.  The OP was bragging about his new Wolfman razors that came straight from James with no "extra shipping/taxes." That came out of the horse's mouth in this thread.  He sold it for $550.  He's got some 'splainin to do selling it for that price then complaining about someone else doubling their investment out of it.

https://damnfineshave.com/thread-wolfman...use?page=2

In this thread he complains about price caps on Morris and Forndran brushes at TSN, and that he isn't selling his M&F brushes anytime soon. He then sells them, and there are several threads where he sells them FAR above what they go from Lee.

https://damnfineshave.com/thread-sn-putt...-f-brushes

Examples of his sales:

https://damnfineshave.com/thread-want-to...finest-2xl

This thread should never have been started by the OP in my opinion.  Totally hypocritical, and it looks like sour grapes complaining from him, that someone else is doubling his price on the sale. He's been profiting off of this forum for some time now.  I have no problem with that, but don't go calling someone else out for doing the same thing you are doing.  The paper trail is several threads long and easy to find.

Ouch. That hurts indeed. Yes, Ebay would have been the OP's preferred setting as well.

And I don't think the admins of the forum have dedicated time to do price policing. Who would set the acceptable profit limit?  If 550 as price is cool,  why isn't 1200.

we definitely don't have time to be pricing police and it's not a road I'd ever want to venture down.

because no rules were broken on this forum. I've been on other forums where someone was banned for something that happened outside of any forum and it left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Banned for what?  He paid the seller and now it's his.

While I don't agree with it and think that type of behaviour makes you a dochebag, he didn't break any rules.

This is why I always research who I am selling to.  I make sure my sales go to well respected members and people I can trust not to flip the goods.

It's also why I don't do random PIFs.

exactly.

Someone buys something at the asking price. That person recognizes an opportunity to profit from their investment, and does so.

And you get butt-hurt about that? Seriously?

Nothing stopping the OP from selling on ebay at 3X his asking price here. Nothing stopping anyone complaining about it in this thread(or any other thread) from investing the $600 to buy the item and then turn it around.

This is a standard business practice. Buy something, mark it up to profitable levels, and flip it to another consumer.

It is not illegal. It is not against the rules of this site. It is not against the rules of Ebay. It is not unethical nor immoral.

Get over yourselves. Nobody is entitled to a "bro deal", and no one is required to provide one.

This is whining, plain and simple.

exactly.

Markets work both ways.

While I find it interesting to see, I don't know if I care much beyond possibly feeling jealous after I've sold anything. At best it's exciting. At worst it's regret that I didn't ask for more.

If you want to be generous, what good is the generosity if your act comes with conditions?

I think we all would hope that someone would appreciate an item for its intended purpose and inherent quality. Assigning a value to it is only possible for two willing participants. Hopefully anything acquired by a generous avenue is passed along by the same method in kind if it's not appreciated. It doesn't seem to work like that. Ideals are important. Pragmatism is too.

If you are in need of a car to remain gainfully employed and I give you one for a fair price I'm a decent person. If you win the lottery or keep the car for 40 years until it's a collector's item I don't feel like you are obligated to me any more. As long as the payment cleared and we moved on, then that's that.

You can't control what other people do, but you can control how you react to their actions. If that means not selling anything else at generous and subjectively fair prices any longer then you're within your rights to do so. I think it's unfortunate. Life's too short to waste time and energy in fear and regret. Learn, decide, move on. Never let one unfortunate event affect how you treat other people in the grand scheme of things. I've been lied to in life. I still trust new people I meet, within reason, until given cause not to. People abuse or take advantage of charity all the time. If every charity closed for good the world would be a worse off place.

indeed!

Huh

I've read through the responses here and see both sides of the issue. In the end, if he sells for such a price, it sounds like he's the better businessman. "Unfair" means nothing in a free market. Its whatever the buyer chooses to pay. There is no contract here that says they have to sell at a price you approve of or can't flip products.

Next time triple your price Wink  Now you know.

And don't worry about this stuff. Life goes on. The Sun will still rise and still set, and winter is coming. No need for drama.
