Guys, first of all a member from this forum contacted me about the eBay listing. What somebody is willing to set the selling price is up to them. But to list it for over double and on the same day it was received...every intention was to jack up the prices. Hopefully nobody bids to teach the douche a lesson. Smile

I with you. I'm all for the free market etc etc but if your specifically just searching for gear to then flip it I have an issue and would like to sell to someone who actually wants the item. And unfortunately that's one down fall of this particular form that doesn't allow the majority to weed these people out. But none the less I'll just continue to deal with friends and people I know rather then everyone.

Specifically searching for gear to flip it is called retail where I come from.

Flipping gear for 300% markup is called smart retail...

Tsk tsk..

Oh well, our hobby has many other good side, so I guess I'll just focus on that. I find it uneasy to sympathize with the OP, when he himself according to some threads posted here seems to be guilty of the same thing.

Just be mindful of who you deal it. I have been taken advantage of when I was a newbie, I just hope the newbies will do their research on the item's proper cost before jumping on any of these "deals".

But hey, that's what the forums are for, the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

I hope those who have questions won't feel embarrassed to ask.

This thread really touches a lot of nerves. I can completely understand the OP's feelings here. I think it's unfair to assume the workings of his brain. I believe he thought that he was selling to a DFS member who shared the same moral compass as he. Unfortunately that was not the case. It pains me that there are those on this forum that don't consider the term "gentlemanly" relevant anymore. I do and I also consider myself a gentleman. If that is passé, so be it.
However, I am not naïve. I do "vet", if you will potential buyers of my "hard to find" merchandise. Sometimes I error, but that happens. If you sell on BST, either ignore what happens afterwards, or ask a few questions before you sell. That's my opinion, and I am sticking with it. Smile

and how we are suppose to know and be aware if you don't post the dudes forum name or the link where he posted. Whats the point of your post if you don't provide us all the info

There is a difference between using the word as a logo, a means to create a bond in a virtual community and actually walking the walk.

I can't see any other logical way to view it.

I have sold 2 razors here. Both through private emails rather than the BST. While this makes it easier for me to judge the intent of the buyer it is certainly not fool proof.

At the end of the day, your choices as a seller on the BST are thus: sell to the first person willing to pay your asking price and ignore everything that happens afterwards OR do your level best to vet out resellers and profiteers to only sell to those that deserve a good deal...and then ignore everything that person does after the sale because even the betting may fail.

Wether or not anyone agrees with profiteering or not does not change the fact that here, at least, there is nothing to prevent it. If you want 100% guarantee that a purchaser is not going to profit from something you sold them, than online is not where you want to sell your gear.

Everyone wants to feel like they got a good deal, and everyone wants to feel like a decent and generous person. But y'all are gonna have a stroke trying to stop a douche from being a douche. You can't control what other people do. You can only control how you respond to it...

I've often wondered if the Code Duello should be restored to practice among gentlemen.

That might serve to weed out some imposters.

For grins see: http://teachinghistory.org/system/files/...-logic.pdf.

Here's another bit perspective. What follows is a slightly edited excerpt (in italics) from an email I received this morning:

Before the current releases, I very much wanted a Falstaff. There was one on eBay in Cobalt. I went to enter a bid, and instead of the bid being entered as 183, which was my intention, the bid got registered as 380! As I was cancelling the bid, the auction ended, and I won it, beating out a bid for 375.

Well, being a man of my word (and recovering attorney) I honored the bid, paid for the brush and got it - the fellow was very nice.

Just a few days ago, I got a message from the seller telling me that he read your post about scalping, how that was never his intention, how he was just selling off some of his den to raise money for his wedding, etc. AND without my asking, he refunded 200 to my PayPal account, because he felt that that’s what you would have intended and wanted to respect your work. I was floored, and thought you’d like to know.
