Seygus DFS razor pass around (2 razors)

Great shaver! From low end aggressive (with astra blade) to mid aggressive (with feather). I much prefer using It with the short handle set up. Makes It for the perfect travel razor.

CONUS razor was waiting for me in my mailbox when I got home from work. It is loaded with a Gillette 7o'clock green, and I have my Captain's Choice Bay rum blooming, waiting for my first shave with this bad boy.

First impressions...

Beautiful razor. The anodized finish is very attractive. We will see if it provides good glide. Knurling on the handle feels good, well defined and grippy. We will see how it feels with wet, soapy fingers.

Overall, first impressions are good. It looks good, looks like a clean design, and feels like it has a decent weight in hand. I will post my impressions after this first shave is completed, and see if anything changes...

45 minutes later, and I have my initial post-shave impression...

First, I have to say that this is pretty easily the most mild razor I have ever used. It is easily comparable to my Slim on #1. More mild than my Merkur 33c. BUT...it is a fairly efficient razor, as well.

Once you find the angle, and it is fairly intuitive, it does it's job well, with no irritation. Good glide, good feel.

It does seem light during the shave. I tried a pass with my MR22 stainless handle, but it just made the razor bottom heavy, and made it more difficult to find the proper cutting angle. At the start of the first pass, I felt like I wanted to use more pressure due to the low weight. By the end of the first pass, I had the angle down pretty well, and no longer felt like I wanted to apply pressure.

I do think more weight in the head would be beneficial, but with 6 more shaves ahead of me, I will reserve judgement...

All in all a really decent shave. Let's see how the rest of the week goes...

Here's a quick update. The International Seygus (red) was drop this afternoon at The post office. It will now leave Canada and make it's way in Sweden, where KungOscar will have is shot with this Baby.

Ok so here is my honest opinion...

I am not enjoying my shaves with this razor. It is too mild for me. As a head shaver, it simply takes too many passes to get through my hair. I had a full head of hair when I started shaving, and I could stop shaving my head, and still grow it all back out. So I get thick head stubble very quickly, and the exceptionally mild nature of this razor just cant cut through it with the aort of efficiency I like.

I took 4 passes last night and then switched to my Slim on #3 for a 5th pass and touchups to finally get a clean shave.

It is a really good looking razor, and it does perform well, just not for my dense head hair stubble. So rather than keep trying, and frustrating myself in the process, I am ready to passbit along to the next person in line, so someone else can use it, and enjoy the shaves more than I am.

Dont misunderstand me, it is a darn good razor, and if you like really mild shaves, than this may just be the ticket for you. Its just too mildvfor my taste, and takes too much effort to get my head as clean as I like it...

This is going to be counter intuitive... but I find i performed best when used like a cartage... that use a bit of pressure; similar to how you'd use a one blade.

Without the pressure it's VERY mild to the point of not cutting. With some pressure you get a nice shave but with none of the 'harshness'.

1. Finish - Very good.
a. Head - There were some 'worn' spots on the head where the finish did not seem to adhere very well; if you look closely, those spots are visible in the pictures of the razor before they were even shipped out to the first user.  The 'worn' spots however were very stable and did not seem to expand with use.  As a new razor, I think it's forgivable (especially considering the lower price of entry) but it's something that a bit more QC would be able to rectify.  The coating did glide very nicely and I did not notice any 'drag'
b. Handle - Very grippy.  Medium short length. I personally would prefer a slightly longer handle but that's a personal preference.
c. Weight - Super light.  Almost as light as a Standard Razor.  There is a metal 'weight' at the top of the handle which gives it a nice balance overall but personally I prefer a heavier razor.

2. Efficiency - Extremely Mild.  The safety bar is VERY conservative and I found that I needed slight pressure to get a nice shave similar to a cart or one blade.  This may seem super counter to what we always say for DE, but with a bit of pressure I found I got a surprisingly efficient shave with no weepers or redness.

4. Ease of Use - Nothing special here.  Very standard loading.

5. Bottom Line - Very good for the price.  I understand there are other material options that may increase the weight which is something I think I'd go for.  The razor would be a good choice for super-quick-dont-have-time-to-focus use.  It's extremely mild considering it's an 'open' comb, but efficient once you learn that it's ok to use a bit of pressure.  Not a 'must have' razor, but if you're looking for a mild razor and light weight razor I think its a good choice.  Compared to an aluminum standard razor, I think I'd go with the Seygus hands down.

By the way he shaves every week his head with it, but has no much experience with other razors, so is better for him than a Slim I gift or a multi blades that used in the past. We have done a brass one which has 110g, 45 just in the head. I'd prefer this one, aluminum with a heavy handle, but many people prefer more weight in the head. We have no tools yet to work with steel, so the brass is a good chance to the aluminum. They are also machined and polished by hand. Well, thanks again and let me add that we love read your posts, cause are real, your own experience and thrill when using and we respect that. Great Eastern holidays, friends.

I think my experience would have been dramatically more to my liking with a heavier razor. Everything else was very nice, including fit, finish and appearance. I'm still very interested in the production brass version of this razor, because of that added weight...for whatever that might be worth to you...

I have the brass version on its way, since its the first batch of the final version price is cheaper AKA same as the blue/red aluminum version price, different knurled handle and bunch of anniversary engravings on it
