Are you guys aware of the Barbear Português 2023 limited edition Semogue brush (100 numbered pieces)? I believe this was arranged by a Portuguese guy with an Instagram channel (Barbear Português) and the knot is an uncommonly high quality 3-band silvertip, hand tied by the owner of Semogue. The handle is an updated version of an old Semogue model and it is in dark green (they call it racing green). It is a 27mm diameter knot with 53mm loft. The brushes are being sold via VintageScent.com and they are €130, which is higher than other Semogues but in my opinion an extremely generous deal for what this brush is.
I got one and I think the knot is really special - the hair selection is outstanding quality, and the knot is densely packed and has pretty high backbone for such a fine-haired 3-band brush. Mine has very soft tips indeed, no hint of any kind of scritch out of the box, and it is a superb latherer. If you like a proper silvertip brush with fine, 3-band hair then I cannot think of anyone who is currently offering a premium knot with such high quality hair and with this kind of density of construction. I think pretty much anyone would find this a well-balanced knot, whether they usually favour 3-band or 2-band hair. The handle is very comfortable for me too and it is a good quality acrylic, as you might expect from Semogue.
I think it is kind of nice to see that the owner of Semogue has the skills to match any premium artisan brush maker when he chooses to do so, and he is not merely a businessman. If it sounds remotely interesting to you I really urge you to grab one. I don’t think we see brushes like this often and something like this may not come around from Semogue again for some years, if ever.
Here is mine.
