Semogue Brushes

Does anyone know what the dyeing of the bristle will do? I am not sure of why they offer it.

I believe it is purely aesthetic. The vast majority are bleached (the white ones) or bleached and then dyed (to mimic badger appearance). Rarely you'll see undyed ones, which look kind of brown. I like the white ones, though my latest purchase of a Semogue C3 IT was the banded just because that was the only one offered.

I have read on other forums people speculating that this bleaching (not sure about the dying) may weaken the bristles, which in turn has an impact backbone / floppiness. Seems logical, but not sure in practice.

I agree that the extra handling and/or treating of the bristles makes them a little weaker and brittle. All of the dyed knots I have display a little more bristle loss than the undyed ones snd they also break off fragments. Not a lot but it’s there. I also noticed some discolouration in the soaking water for a few shaves with the dyed Galahad  I haven’t seen that before.  That said, my well broken in 1305 knot is wonderful.  I would like to try a Zenith as well.

After only 3 weeks the 620 (LHS) was floppier than the 1460 (RHS) after 3.5 years . Personally I like a bit of scritch YMMV

Except for the Omega 10086 (knot diameter 18 mm, loft 42 mm) I find boar brushes to be way too floppy. 
I like the handle on the 620, but it has too much splay. I've been considering yanking it out and re-knotting it with a synthetic.

Does anybody have experience with the Semogue horse knots?

I had a non-positive experience. It was a 7 hair a shave shedder. Way too much splay. If you don't like boars, this will be too floppy

I started loading with a boar without presoaking. Adds quite a bit of early rigidity to the lathering.

I love the Semogue SOC boar. It's one of my favorite brushes. However, if you're thinking of going horse, the only one worth using is the Zenith "extra soft" model. You can pick one up from Your Shaving.

The only time I lose a hair on my 1305 is when I do not soak it sufficiently prior to loading.

I love my 1305. Soaking boars is always recommended.  Here’s a picture of a well broken in 1305 and a new, unused one. I’m not sure what the significance of the excelsior sticker on the older one vs the hereditas sticker on the newer one is.
