Semogue 610 will not load Soap

Hello all,

I have a Semogue 610 with about 40 shaves that still will not load soap. It's as if the bristles are made of wax or something. It breaks up the soap and swirled it around; but, the soap does not load into the brush. Any ideas before I throw this thing in the trash?

Sounds like my 620! For the life of me I don't understand why it doesn't want to play.

Mine has around 80 shaves and if I use the same soap with another brush I get a lather bomb. Very confusing.

Wash it or let it soak for 10 minutes , with wine vinegar and water and let it dry after.Use it again.It should load soap perfectly fine.

Used to have a 610, but lost my patience with it, especially when comparing to other brushes and how easy they were to load.

However, Teiste is a pro when it comes to these matters, so I would definitely follow his advice before binning the brush. Another thing you could try is using clarifying shampoo, but the vinegar/water soak is probably the best place to start.

I have a 610, and really need to soak it for ten minutes in hot water while I'm in the shower. Have you tried this?

I soak it in hot water while I shower.

It doesn't hold enough lather for me for three passes. Every now and then I wash the knot with either borax and shampoo or brush soap I bought from Superior Shave. It gets gunked up with soap scum and film from hard water much easier than any of my badger brushes.

Hmm.. If it was new, boars (specially Semogue) tend to eat lather at least in my experience, but 40 shaves? The brush should be broken in already at this point.

Are you by any chance using a pre-shave oil? I heard these can coat the bristles, other than that, I am stumped too.

How does it have 40 shaves? Well, I need to load the brush at least every pass, sometimes I reload during g a pass to get enough lather. That's how. I keep reading to give it time. Good greif! I've given this thing tooo much time in my opinion.
I've tried leaving the water in the brush, squeezing the water out, one shake, two shakes, etc.
the brush just does not want to take soap.
I'll try the vinegar/water soak as a last ditch effort.

Yeah, sounds like too much trouble for me. Especially for a boar brush. If you really like boar, try a Zenith. They are soft and have zero funk right out of the box. At least that was the case with mine. And no trouble at all loading soap. Good luck with the vinegar soak!
