Hi all,

Just a quick intro. I'm not new to trad wet shaving but I am new to SE shaving so have "the bug" all over again that I got with DE shaving  Big Grin Been properly wet shaving for 5 years now and still enjoy the thrill of getting that BBS.

I'm 34 from the UK, I'm a CNC machinist, and my other main hobby is knitting. I also enjoy classic menswear, fountain pens, boots, reading, (mainly) metal music in all its forms, and people watching.

My mrs knits and crochets so I was subjected to it that way but I also saw a pic on Insta of a young ish man knitting on the tube in NYC (or elsewhere in US). That image rattled around my head for a few weeks and one morning I got to work and just thought "I want to learn how to knit" and here I am ?

Also I was finding it an absolute sod finding knitwear to fit me properly and was a style, colour  and material I liked so that also pushed me over the edge to knitdom ?

Welcome to DFS and enjoy your stay. Smile

I, too, have a thing for fountain pens. I tried knitting years ago and just couldn’t get the hang of it. What I did do was counted cross stitch. I found it a stress reliever and enjoyed what slowly evolved as I worked on a piece.

Again, welcome.

You're the 2nd person in as many days as said they couldn't get on with knitting and went to cross stitch!

I didn't find knitting a relief at first. I found intensely irritating as I gained/lost stitches somehow or fluffed up some other way but I was determined to get it. 2 years in to it and I've done fair isle and I'm learning double sided knitting. I did a double sided star wars scarf for my mrs for christmas and im doing a dr who one for a friend of ours now ?

Thank you ? it takes a long time but is rewarding to see the pictures emerge. I'm still not good enough for paid work though. I see flaws but hope to improve upon them the next time I do it. Example being the ends of the SW scarf are flared. I tried something different with the DW scarf and, although is still flared, it's not AS flared...

These are a few of the cross stitch pieces I did.  Because I was working at the time, each took quite a lot of time to complete because I could only do a bit before and after work and more on the weekend.  The two that took the longest were the cats' masks (about seven months) and the map of Scotland (more than a year).  However, seeing the final work proved to be very gratifying and, as I mentioned, it was a calming activity when the stress level at work got bad.
