SE blades (non-injectors)

The 121-3s are GEM SS ptfe blades, just in bulk and for quite a bit less $ than in the 10 packs. At one time Connaught Shaving had them for a better price than Ted Pella even with the shipping from the UK. I don't know if that's the way it is today.

There are various carbon steel blades, and while they (IMO) require no break in period or stropping to make them good right out of the pack I just don't like them as much as the SS blades. But YMMV is SE as much as DE. I've read many posts from other folks who like the CS blades more.

The Ted Pella CS blades, while priced attractively, are useless for shaving.

I don't  know if Ted Pella still does it, but the last load of blades I bought from TP the lady told me that she looked me up on the 'net to see if I was real, had a need, or whatever.

If you don't know American Safety Razor, the makers of most SE blades is up for sale or closure, so buy what you need now for the SE blade apocalypse that might be coming. Please note the word "might". No one knows exactly what will happen yet.

That's what I do (oil). But even if I wipe them dry after use and (mineral) oil them they still rust and I only get 10 or so shaves from one. It's not unusual for me to get 30 comfortable and efficient shaves from a SS blade. I could probably get more if I wanted to do more passes or wanted a less than BBS shave.

Oh I forgot. Andrew I don't write this for you, but lots of other folks read this and it for them. I mentioned breaking a SS blade in. Lots of us find that just by using a fresh SS blade for 3-4 times in a milder razor does something to it to bring it into prime shaves. I find that it will show a reduction in shaving "quality" somewhere around 12-13 shaves typically, then it gets good again until I finally can it somewhere beyond 20 shaves, but I judge that end of it's service life by shaving efficiency.

BTW, thanks for starting this thread. It reminded me to buy more blades. I probably had enough already, but I bought 400 more (another 21 years of shaving @ 20 shaves per blade*) . It came to 45 British pounds or something like $73 with shipping. The last time I bought from TP I paid $50/200 with shipping. I'm not suggesting that one not shop around.

* of course I've been known to pass blades out to SE noobs, so I have enough to do that for quite some time as well. I pass out more blades than I use for myself.
