Schick Proline P-30 artist club blades

Several months ago my friend gifted me with an iKon El Jefe artist club SE razor.  He kept telling me how much he loved the shaves from his.  He warned me about the blade placement defect in the razor so I knew how to correct that problem ahead of time.  He also included a couple of Feather artist club blades.  While I got a decent shave from the combination, I could see the promise of the razor but the shave was nothing special.

I then decided to try a couple of other AC blades that, for me, ranged from meh to awful (KAI Milds).  Then, through a post I saw here on DFS, I decided to give the Schick Proline P-30 blades a try at the same time I got both my friend and me a RazoRock Satin Silver HAWK AC razor.  Many of you know that the HAWK is as light as the El Jefe is heavy.  I used the Schick Proline first in the HAWK and then in the El Jefe and even though the dynamics of the two razors are different, the shaves that I got from both with this blade were amazing.  This morning, after a full seven shaves (four with the HAWK and three with the El Jefe) I decided to retire the blade, though I probably could have had more excellent shaves from it.  Every one of the week's shaves, and no matter with which of the two razors, was BBS and completely irritation free.  There was not so much as a weeper with any of the shaves.  These blades have made me completely rethink my Artist Club SE razors, from just okay to really looking forward to using them.  I now have a RazoRock HAWK stainless steel DLC coated razor on the way to me and am looking forward to trying a Schick Proline in it.

I realize that everyone has favorites and what works great for one may not work so well for others.  However, while I have one or two other blades that are new to me to try, I don't know if I'll even bother anytime soon.

By the way, I palm strop my blades but artist clubs are so narrow that it is difficult, and somewhat dangerous, to do.  However, my friend made me a mini stropping board and it makes the job easier.

Freddy, I picked up one of these blades from TryABlade a few weeks back. in fact, I inquired with Jason about these blades. He said he never heard of them but he'll pick some up and let me know when he gets them. once he got them, we made a trade for some blades.

I'm excited to try it in my hawk and general once I make a decision on my oneblade core..

I realize that you and I have totally different beard and skin types, Andrew, and that you have way more issues than I when it comes to shaving (such as bumps, ingrowns, etc.) so I will really be interested to know your take on these blades.

I think this will be the first blade I try in my CJB AC shavette that is coming to me... I ordered the complete AC sampler pack from TryABlade that should be here on Friday, and then the shavette is coming from Canada, so whenever it clears and gets to me...probably next week some time...

I'm also fairly keen on getting one of the aluminum Hawk razors from Italian Barber. Price is right, and I think I'm going to need another razor that uses the AC style blade. Just because...it's been too long since I've purchased a safety razor...lol

Chris (BadDad), as I mentioned to andrewjs18, I shall really be interested in your take on these blades.  Just a heads-up on the aluminum HAWK.  I love the razor but be warned that it is very light.  In fact, it almost feels like plastic in the hand.  However, I had beautiful results from the shaves with this razor and unless you are adamant about having a heavy razor, this kitten offers up some beautiful results.  Of course, we are talking about head shaving (you) vs. face shaving (me) so I do not know how that dynamic will come into play.  Again, I am really looking forward to the results you get from the blade, whether used in the shavette or the HAWK.

Thanks for the heads up on the weight, Freddy . Do you know if the Hawk will accept after-market handles? If so, I will still get one. If not, I may have to pass, just because I have had issues with lightweight razors in the past...

Chris, I can definitely say Yes to the handle, for two reasons.  One, my friend, Mike, who wanted more weight, successfully switched out handles and, two, after getting your post I just tried my Maggard MR11 handle (which is stainless steel) on the HAWK head and it fit flawlessly so go for it.

Believe it or not, I actually like the change-up from a very light razor like the HAWK to a fairly heavy one like the El Jefe and have had success with both.  Go figure.
