After a bit of research some individuals have suggested the Schick E2 or M adjustable as razors that might approach or exceed the efficiency of a Blackland Blackbird (and other modern DE razors in that range of efficiency). However I have seen very little on which of the two would be the most efficient. One post suggested that the M at max setting is less efficient than the E2.

Could anyone here share their experience between the two, regarding potential efficiency or other considerations?

This would be my first purchase of an injector, although I have a number of years with the SE AC format.

Thanks

The problem with the E2 injectors there are 4 different razors that are called E2s. None of them shave the same as each other and they should just be considered their own seperate variants to reduce confusion.

These are all the American Type E injectors Schick and the order they were made in with the exception of a black handled E1. Razors 2 - 5 are all considered E2 razors. Canadian Type E razors are their own seperate group since none of them shave the same as their American counterparts.

The most of aggressive of those is the 3rd one from the left. The more efficient but almost as aggressive is the last one on the right which is considered an E3. The Canadian Type E razors tend to be more aggressive than their American counterparts and are worth seeking out if you like aggressive razors. They are easy enough to spot they all say made in Canada on them. On that picture razors 4 - 6 with the fixed springs will have a Canadian version of them.

To answer the original question on the Type M the 3rd and 6th razor in that picture are at least as if not more aggressive than a Type M on it's max setting.

Thank you for providing all of that information. It is very helpful. I knew there were some differences but did not realize the shaves were that varied, except for the Canadian models which I had read about.

One other thing to keep in mind only difference between the 5th and 6th razor in that picture is the guards. They do shave the same but the 6th razor aka an E3 will shave you closer. Reason being the guard has striations in it and that functions to stretch your skin as the razor cuts hair. The 5th and prior versions all have smooth guards that glide over skin without any grab.

The razors across most the Types do vary quite a bit from one variant to another. With that said most are not worth seeking out unless you are a collector.

Purchased what appears to be a Canadian E3. For $17 I couldn't pass it up. It won't be in my possession for another week or so. I'm still stalking a few M adjustables on ebay.

As reported in SOTD and in preparation for future analysis vs M:

Did I just have one of the most effective, smooth, and low aggression shaves from a $17 razor likely manufactured in the 1940s? I believe I did. Smile Very impressed by this razor. While the efficiency is not quite at a Blackbird Ti (which is my current baseline) or maybe not even a Vector SS with Feather Super Pros, it is in the neighborhood with a significantly smoother experience. And this is my first shave with it. Maybe it is the supporting cast of modern schick blades, a very hydrated and cushioned lather, or the handle angle on this copy. I do believe the angle may be bent slightly more than others I have seen, but not dramatically so. I did become cavalier at the end of the shave and caught a few weepers above the upper lip area. A small amount of residual irritation can be felt on the jaw line and lower neck, but that could be an accumulation from the past days of new soap samples and razor changeouts. I am going to wait to conduct a more detailed analysis until I have had multiple shaves, in an attempt to avoid any "honeymoon" bias on this razor.

I am starting to think the real comparison is the E3 vs the I2. I still intend to run the M1 adjustable with twin blades before delivering a final analysis.
