Scent Notes: What's in a name? Also, introducing our Chatillon Lux Parfums line

I wore Omnostre today - nice.  Its reminiscent of LQV.

Thanks, it is one that I took the inspiration behind the scent (Haitian vetiver and Middle Eastern notes meeting in the spirit of the World's Fair) and tried to go more, dry and arid. More like West Indies ingredients being introduced to a Middle Eastern environment. Glad you're enjoying it, as LQV and Omnostre were made fairly selfishly. They are the type of scents I really, really enjoy wearing personally.

Okay, guys, what am I missing here?  I have already stated that Omnostre is not a scent I'm overly fond of.  However, I have LQV in the toner form and really like the scent.  I just went and took a whiff of each and get absolutely no connection between the two at all so, again, what am I missing?

My guess is that it would be the musks and pink pepper used. Perhaps they just grab your attention away from the vetiver notes. There is one dry/animalic amber musk especially that I thought, when I read your previous comment, that your nose was latching onto.

Thanks, Shawn, maybe that is it.  Perhaps I just notice some notes in a bad way and they just seem to overwhelm anything else whereas someone else may have a completely different scent sensation, if you will, of the identical formula.  For example, I am a big fan of vetiver, especially Guerlain's Vetiver Eau de Toilette (old formulation) and Peter's Desmond's Barrow Joie de Vetiver Shaving Soap.  I like the earthiness.  I have read where others do not care for the scent.  It's the same scent so I am guessing different folks perceive it in their own unique way.

Oh, definitely. I know all types of art and expression are completely subjective by the viewer's or, in this case, sniffer's perception, but I think it's always interesting to see how other people smell something. Especially if it's something you've smelled a million times, someone can make you see it in a whole new light.

That's what makes it both fun but also difficult to talk about. I think I've said this before, but if not, a friend once said that talking about music is like dancing about architecture. I'd say the same holds true to talking about scent to an extent.

This is deep. I have trouble going beyond like / don't like, like a lot / don't like a lot when it comes to scent and it makes sense that we won't all feel the same way about the same scent. Scent sometimes triggers memories and its unlikely that two people will have the same memories so a given scent would effect them differently and i think your nose will also sort through complex scents and pick out the notes it likes or dislikes. Like hearing a bad note in an otherwise flawless musical performance. Its hard not to wince, internally at least.

All I can say is I think that the Chatillon Lux Parfums line will be very interesting and a lot of fun for everyone. I'm looking forward to the next phase of the Chatillon Lux journey.
