II guess in the beginning we all thought we would save money. In the old days we only had one can of chemicals called shaving cream one handle and the cartridges were getting out of hand expensive. To me shaving was a necessary evil. But that's all we had, a can, a handle and some cartridges. My wife on the other hand had baskets and baskets of STUFF and some of it never used. I suppose some of the fun was in buying it. I knew I would save money because the blades were so inexpensive.
However, man by definition is a collector. For the most part do you have one of anything you like? At the time I did not realize that there were dozens of brands of blades and some of those brands have several different types. So you decide you want to try this one and then this one and before long like myself you are using 6 different blades and now I have several hundred of them. I originally purchased 3 different soaps; now I have 91 of them and more on the way. Of course, some of the soaps I have several in reserve. Just in case?? I started out with 2 brushes, now I have 17 and will probably purchase more this year. However, I am proud to say that I only have 3 razors. For several years I have only used one of them. However that one cost me $299. It is the same way with clothes. How many men have just one tie or one pair of shoes? I had a mid life crises several years ago and thought I would buy a Harley Davidson. I did, now I have three of them. I can't begin to tell you how much money I have spent customizing two of them. So much so that one has appeared in magazines and calendars.
So gentleman it comes down to we are collectors and the artisans and manufactures know that. And every time something new comes we say WOW and sooner or later we have one. I get a chuckle reading all of these confessions on why we are doing this. I got it and some how I can't stop it.
BUT, now I have almost as much primping things as my wife. No way never but as long as I believe it is fine. And in conclusion gentlemen, I have never enjoyed shaving as much as I do now. Have a great 4th.
