Satellite TV

Hey folks,

I am a long time DirecTV subscriber. Mostly, I have been happy. Lately, I want to "Office Space" my whole house DVR!! It keeps freezing up on playback. As I type this, I am letting ATT do a reset/scan/reboot of the DVR.

I am concerned, having read that ATT is losing money after acquiring DirecTV, and has already sold it off to some sort of group that will run it. I think it is getting time to ditch it and go with streaming services. 

Anyway, my question is: Anyone else have DirecTV and having issues on playback of recorded shows?

We had a host of problems with Direct TV, including poor installation, dvr, loss of service and no help from the technical staff or customer service. We changed to Dish and had a great installation, super dvr, great technical service and no loss of service. Our area has no cable service, and internet is limited to phone line DSL with a maximum level of 70 mbps. Digital antennae is also not possible due to terrain and high trees. Therefore, for us it is either Dish satellite or 5G/6G when it becomes available. If you can stream successfully, it is a less expensive option.

We are seriously considering Dish, as well as just streaming. Luckily we have access to high speed internet. Captainjonny thanks for the input!

Can't speak for DirecTV, but I did use Dish for many moons.
    The Dish service pretty good with the programming being a lot of channels that were never used, as usual. Of course the price kept coming out so I kept cutting down my channels as time went on. 
It was always exciting when in a storm was heading my way and the weather alerts from local channels when the satellite would drop out, yep that was fun.
   Cancel Dish a few months ago put up a couple of antennas with a splitter-pointed different directions and streaming too.
   Right now there's only a couple of channels on this and I could get them online.

The wife and I ditched Dish and DirecTV about eight years ago and went to streaming. We did end up buying a digital antenna for local channels and there is only one that doesn't come through well. Overall, we pay less and actually love the streaming way more than we ever did with dishes or cable.

check out youtube tv...it's probably the cheapest and best satellite/cable replacement on the market right now.

I think it's $65/month, no additional fees. Unlimited DVR that can keep your shows stored for up to 9 months, iirc.

I like my Roku and streaming. Satellite television is expensive and you end up with channels you don't watch.

I had Directv for about 13 years and when I moved to my current Florida location I was offered cable which included 5g internet. When I first had Directv I thought it was great but never liked the satellite dish and all the cables that have to be installed. The actual transmission was very good and the service from the beginning was good and the price was cheap. But over the years Directv raised my rates from one excuse to another. When I called customer service I always got a USA rep but as time went on the company switched to out of country (to save money). When I moved from central Florida my monthly bill peaked at $169 and that was only after I kept cancelling programing.
Now Directv switched to streaming with no contract or equipment needed. I hate streaming in particular when the shows are supposingly live. With live broadcasts there is always a delay and not caused by transmission but extra commercials.
