I ordered some Sartorial Shave Cream from the UK to USA last month, along with Blenheim Bouquet. I thought I would make a few remarks about it to those who have been curious.
Scent: it is complex and strong. No problem enjoying the scent from beginning to end. And given that this is a fragrance I wear five days a week, I want to enjoy it. The scent is clearly the same, but it resembles the EDT in that sometimes one note dominates, sometimes another. It is wonderful, though, I am happy with the scent.
Performance: I have only used it a handful of times, so that is not really enough to give a solid opinion, but I have also used Blenheim Bouquet and Endymion. It is outstanding. Outstanding. I have been making my way through a puck of Haslinger Sheeps Milk, after a winter with AoS tallow and MdC, and I have to report that each shave has been, so far, as good as the great soaps I am using. Honestly, it has been slicker, considerably slicker than these three soaps. I did not expect to find such a good performer, I just wanted the scent. But its slickness is so remarkable it is hard not to notice. I shave with a straight razor, and whether I use a thin, see through lather or a luxurious creamy lather, it just delights me.
Face feel: I actually skipped aftershave the other day, with no adverse effect. That is rare. If I don't apply aftershave my face becomes dry and prickly. Haslinger has occasionally acted like this, but not always. MdC has often acted this way, but not always. To be fair, Penhaligons creams have sometimes acted like this, but not always. It has a magnificent face feel, and I whether I apply aftershave or not, the feel of my skin, rubbing my hand over my face after a shave is remarkable. It has been quite a highlight.
Efficiency: 1g per shave. XPEC has usually consumed 3g, Musgo Real 2g, other creams 2-3 grams. Penhanligons will supply 150ish shaves from a tube.
Lather: nearly identical to AoS tallow or Haslinger. Buttercream. There probably are differences, but not enough for me to notice.
If you look around, you can find this well below retail. I got mine for $26 shipped to USA from allbeauty in the UK. I spent a long time looking, and eventually found this place. Blenheim Bouquet was about the same price.
If you love this fragrance, you have found a new friend. The fact that the performance is so good just makes me giddy.
There is another thread going about most luxurious creams in our experience. I have used a few, this is the top for me. Bought it as a weekend cream, am having a hard time not using it every morning.
Anyone else try it?
