SAPONIFICIO VARESINO: WAXES

Waxes are very important in a good shaving soap.
They produce a film-forming eudermal effect.
And they help the secondary lubrication.

Carnauba wax does it consistently.

So the result is better mechanics.
And a valuable support to skin conditioning.
But it may not be appreciated by some, precisely because of the particular sensation of the foam more "plastic".
And the strong film-forming effect that can be mistaken for a "tension" of the skin.

Saponificio Varesino uses waxes from Beta 4.2.
But the supporting structure (core) remains the same in all evolutions.

Great information there ischiapp !
Having tried plenty of vegetable oil/fat based
shaving soaps inevitably I've come to the conclusion 
that the Saponificio Varesino ones are not just "the best" ,
but they are BY FAR the best of the rest of veg shaving soaps 
that I 've tried so far.I guess the use of waxes play a role to that .

I currently own six ( half of the SV collection ) :
Cosmo  Beta 4.2
Stella Alpina Beta 4.2
Desert Vetiver Beta 4.3
Opuntia  Beta 4.3
Manna Di Sicilia Beta 4.3
70th Anniversary Beta 4.3









In terms of performance
( hydration ,protection ,slickness ,residual slickness and post shave care ) ,
I 've not been able to spot great differences,between the Beta 4.2 
versus the Beta 4.3 formulations .
Neither among the soaps themselves .They all perform great.

Regarding the scents ,things are quite subjective.
I like the Cosmo the most .
Ohhh, those top notes of lemon and coffee !
Manna di Sicilia is my second favourite in 
terms of scent .

Opuntia,70th Annirversary and Desert Vetiver have more "eau de toilete" oriented scents.

Stella Alpina has a more  " clean "  luxurious soap scent.More "neutral" in a way that can be easily matched with a vast selection of asl /edt scents .

The way I make lather with them is by itself a form of "ritual" .
I bloom the soap into their container with
a very small amount ( 15-20 ml )of hot water ( 60-70 degrees C ) .Let it do its work for couple of minutes and the pour the water into a porcelain Pereira Shaving mug.
I dip a damp synth brush into this water and then start loading the soap.From there either
I proceed either with mug lathering using the remaining bloom water for building a rich lather or either into face lathering by wetting
the brush into the bloom water.Both ways
work great and the result is a thick ,rich lather
with silky texture . 




The skin conditioning and post -shave nourishing that the SV shaving soaps do provide is very difficult to be reproduced from
any other shaving soap.At least personally
I've yet to come across a shaving soap 
( veg or tallow based ) that will leave my face so refreshed and rejuvenated.

And yes ,for a triple milled soap of such quality they are dirt cheap.I mean they
should last for some pretty long time .

My SV soap lasted for 117 shaves, vs 55-80 for your typical artisan soap. As mentioned above, SV is really not that expensive given how much longer it lasts.

And that was 117 shaves of heavy loading with boar brushes. Would probably last twice as long if not longer had I used synths.

Where can I get SV 70TH ANNIVERSARY soap and aftershave from Canada now?

Just pulled out my 70th 4.1.

Great stuff. Post shave is unbelievable.
