In August I was consistent in testing.
#CeraUnaVolta / #WaxUponATime
These are the data of the SOTDs.

As you can see, there isn't much of a difference.
All soaps have a better performance with synthetics.
The waxes still allow a good yield.

Going into detail, the stick mode was the least efficient one. Better tolerated by harder soaps.
With the classic FL and a sweet synthetic, the result is definitely superior.

These are the numbers:
Beta 4.0 Dolomiti ... 10 uses = 30 seconds of load = 6g .... 0.200g per second with 80% synthetic
Beta 4.3 Colonia .... 11 uses = 81 seconds of load = 15g ... 0.185g per second with 88% synthetic
Beta 4.3 Felce ...... 11 uses = 43 seconds of load = 9g .... 0.209g per second with 53% synthetic

In practice, the Felce is the most resistant.
In fact, it is the one that has been most abused, also using bristle and old-fashioned synthetics in a preponderant percentage.
However ripping a very honest result.
The Dolomiti is my fetish, and I treated it with white gloves.
But it still consumes just over half a gram at a time.
The Colonia is certainly the most delicate.
But it is also the one with the highest performance, and it is normal that it "wastes" more.
In any case remaining in the average of one hundred shaves compared to the original packaging.

I keep repeating it, now with greater knowledge of the facts.
Saponificio Varesino offers amazing performances.
But at very low cost.
It is a great investment.
In practice, it is unexpencive.
For sure has one of the best quality / price ratio in the world.

How does one find out about the releases of this soap? Been casually looking as I'd like to try it out.

They do maybe 2 releases a year, sometimes less but the only ones not available publicly are Colonia (still in stock) and Flying Mango which were for Bullgoose and/or Shavenook. Luckily SV doesn't have issues with limited stock and special releases. Things are produced in numbers big enough that you won't have to "catch" it at the right time. I don't know if that answers your question but there are many retailers that sell it. I'm not sure if you are in North America.

ischiapp Great post and I think you did a nice little experiment that I could find similarities in my experience. I really enjoyed the earlier beta formulas 4.0 and 4.1 soaps but do think that the following releases did improve in different ways. They won't float everyone's boat but they have been my more consistent performing brand. I still don't think they are the "best" as especially this year I have gotten away from using SV exclusively to go back to some other older soaps that I had and try some new stuff. But I still find I want to really just use SV. There is still more than enough fun rotating through all of them and finding the minute differences in performance.

Has anyone gotten desert vetiver yet? I know Dave in KY had it and the Chief did a video on it. I keep hearing how nice the scent is from different reviews. I will get it before the end of the year.

I purchased a set of the desert vetiver shortly after their release and had a dozen shaves with it. The 4.3 base is extremely good on all counts and the scent is very pleasant, though the vetiver is not too dominant.

My favourite SV is Dolomiti.
I'm lucky to have the Black Edition 2016.

Now, the new Beta 4.3 has more Silt.
And few other new entry.
IMHO, a must have!!!

I just started using the Dolomiti bath soap in the mornings and the scent is great. Then I get an email about this... I already have too many soaps! Sad

Here the same.
... but the original 4.0 is a great soap.
And this is technically better ...

On the paper the 4.3 is way better.
But I can not really feel it on my skin.

I'm testing both, in comparison.
The old 4.0 in the lucky Black Edition of the 2016 version.
And the new 4.3 of this year, with its beige puck.

It's a hard work, but I'm enjoying ...

(This post was last modified: 10-31-2020, 10:53 AM by zaclikestoshave.)
ischiapp I just recently got Dolomiti 4.3 and Desert Vetiver 4.3. I already shaved with both a couple times and like the performance of both. For most of this year, we have had pretty hot and sunny weather. Then, just recently, we started getting some cooler weather, more clouds here and there and more wind chill. My skin and face get soooooo much drier in these conditions. I can put on no joke about 4 times as much moisturizer on my face (kokum and mango butter) during the day.

I bring this up as I think ischiapp is someone like me that enjoys the skincare benefits from what can be offered in shave software. I didn’t find the earlier Dolomiti shave soap to be my personal favorite but I can attest to how much my face, especially if acne is acting up, responds to the clay silt in the earlier soap. I guess a couple things that I think happen when I shave with this soap is it puffs my skin up and help clean my face during the shave. My skin seems clearer and cleaner before I put on the aftershave. The new formula will be interesting to try when it starts heating up again as I think I may enjoy it more when my face doesn’t need as much post shave softening effects.

So I decided this week with the cooler weather that I would use Cosmo 4.2 for the first time in a couple years. This is a much fattier or waxy than the other soaps and can really soak up a lot of hydration and make a pretty thick lather. I usually don’t use this soap due to the scent not being as enjoyable in hot weather but now is a good time to use it.

Cold thread but seeing if anything is new or different on the SV front.
I've not used it but looking it over in the 4.3 or 4.3 beta whatever might be the difference, if any.
