I have 70th Anni, Cosmo and Opuntia. These are 3 of my best and favorite soaps.

I hear people saying Saponificio Varesino is expencive.
Technically, It is NOT.

Here some datas about real cost and durability.

I've not updated, but I think the new Beta 4.3 formula is even cheaper.
Yes, I know SV is cheap.
Better with a good synth brush.
Especially considering the quality!!!

Can someone tell me how the 4.0 base compares with the 4.3 base please, in terms of slickness especially?

4.3 is far superior in my opinion. I would highly recommend any of the 4.2 or 4.3 especially. Any specific soaps you have now and any new ones you are considering? I mentioned some things in my last sotd video, comparing a few things in Manna 4.0 and Manna 4.3.

I have Dolomiti and don't really find it as slick as the modern tallow based soaps and wanted to make sure it's the soap and not me, especially since I've heard many people say 4.3 is as slick if not more than the modern tallow soaps.

I'm very familiar with Dolomiti. Just shaved with it a couple days ago. There are many that have increased slickness. A couple to note would be Tundra Artica (indeed it is slick even though not a beta 4.2 or 4.3), Felce Aromatica 4.3, Cubebe and Opuntia.

Besides slickness, what else do you need or prefer in lather? Dolomiti is best for helping my acne prone skin if I am broken out or if my skin is dry and scaly/flaky. But it is not one I use that often now that many of the other new formulas have a bit more of what I need and prefer.

Honestly when I bought it I didn't know they had different bases and thought when people praised SV they meant all their soaps. But it's good to know it's not the slickest soap, means it's not an issue with how I'm using it. I do like it but it's not on the level of my tallow based soaps.

As anticipated, I start testing the Beta 4.3 of Saponificio Varesino today.
I chose to use the American version, Asylum Colonia.

Very calmly, I will share the data of the "Wax Upon A Time" project.
In fact, given the expected yield, to consume the 10g it will take dozens of uses.
Upon starting, the package weighs 131g and I use the same parameters as the first test.

Just to see the real incidence of waxes.
Both the Alba wax and especially the Carnauba wax offer various advantages.
The first is certainly to increase resistance.
But also to favor secondary lubrication.
  • Beta 4.0
    No Wax ...................... Dolomiti

  • Beta 4.1
No Wax ...................... Settantesimo Anniversario, Tundra Artica

  • Beta 4.2
Cera Carnauba + Cera Alba ... Cosmo, Stella Alpina

  • Beta 4.3
Cera Carnauba ............... Cubebe, Desert Vetiver
Cera Carnauba + Cera Alba ... Felce Aromatica Reformulated, Manna di Sicilia, Mirto di Sardegna, Opuntia

The Settantesimo Anniversario is my favorite, scent wise, followed by Felce Aromatica. I also have the matching bath soap. Such a fantastic scent and performer

I want to celebrate the golden soul of August.
So I'll complete my experiment on waxes in Saponificio Varesino shaving soaps.
In fact, depending on the generation and model, SV offers a different consistency in relation to the waxes it uses.
So also a different yield, in terms of duration.
This is why I am running the test, for which I have created special hashtags.
#CeraUnaVolta / #WaxUponATime

These will be the products subject to verification:
• Beta 4.0 2016 Dolomiti
• Beta 4.3 2017 Felce Aromatica
• Beta 4.3 2018 Asylum Colonia
[Image: HjsmSGV.jpg]

On paper the favorite should be Felce.
In fact it has both waxes, and in a higher position.
Very visible also to the touch, where it is compact and waxy.

Although my favorite, given the particular technical qualities, is Colonia.

I have already started, as seen in my SOTDs.
