Sorry, but I'm a bit late to this party.

When and where can I purchase this soap?

Thanks

March 14 through Declaration Grooming. To get the alcohol-based aftershave or parfum extrait for anyone in Canada or the rest of the world, they will be available at Canadian Blade Co. and Top of the Chain.

Yes, it is just for special occasions at the moment and this is definitely a special occasion!

It certainly is. I'm looking forward to this.

Awesome, I am stoked that you're stoked Smile

Joking aside, that's great because this one definitely means a lot to me. We put it on the calendar originally as sort of a drop-dead date for me going full time with the company, so it's a bit of a milestone party. So beyond just being super proud of these products, there are a few layers to my excitement.

We celebrate with you! And I have absolute faith you'll blow things up and knock it out of the park with this one.

I put together a post trying to add some clarification to how the release will work.

All the shaving products (soap, aftershave, toner, salve) are limited edition. They are straight sandalwood, taking the Santal Auster accord released last year and tweaking it with a very healthy dose of real sandalwood essential oil (sustainably grown and harvested). They will be available only at DeclarationGrooming.com because I will be pretty busy that week and, since this is a premium product release, we wanted to make sure people received the whole set at the same time. It will also be at Top of the Chain for international shavers.

We are making a large quantity with the goal of making sure we can try to get it to as many people as possible who want it. In these releases, I am always asked if there is enough to go around. Unfortunately there is not a good way to predict demand. With such an expensive scent to make and a special soap base that isn’t used in the rest of the line, we really spent a lot of time contemplating the sweet spot quantity wise.

Speaking of the soap, the soap base has a bunch of stuff in it that enhances the slickness, but where it really, really makes leaps and bounds progress is post-shave feel. However, some of those ingredients are a bit fragrant. When I got my test tub, I could smell the soap base, but after leaving the lid off the tub after my first test lather it aired out and dissipated. Of course, I was sent my tub right away because time was of the essence for me to test it to make sure the scent was up to snuff so we could begin production, so with the extra time to air out the batches, there’s a good chance it may not be that noticeable. But we wanted to make sure we gave the heads up.

On to the parfum extrait. This takes the same sandalwood accord used in the shave products and adds oud, opoponax, styrax, patchouli and castoreum to give it an ancient royal anointment vibe underneath while still staying true to the Santal Auster accord. Because it is a permanent addition, it will be on my site, but Scott will also have a limited quantity of bottles to sell.

The parfum extrait will be $90, while the aftershave and toner will be $20 and the salve will be $15. The price for the soap has not been finalized. With the high cost of the fragrance plus the new base, it costs over five times as much to make than a typical Declaration Soap. Obviously, Scott does not want to charge five times as much for his soap, so he is crunching some numbers to try to find a good compromise.

I think that covers everything. I was going to be writing a blog about it for Monday, but then figured may as well get the good word spread now. I wrote this gigantic post on my phone so I hope it is at least semi-coherent.

Any questions I will try to answer in a reasonable time but I am working my keyster off, so sorry if it takes a bit to get back to you. And Scott is doubly busy, so he also feels bad but rest assured he is working very hard and isn’t trying to ignore anyone, either.

Thanks everyone!
